I Need some SERIOUS HELP! Scuba? KingBob?

We are a group of 37 people arriving at Breezes in Nassau on February 11th at 11am. We all plan on staying right on the resort our first day/night (of course a couple of us MAY stroll down the beach to the casino) But I have a few questions that I will try to get in this thread this morning and hope to get a lot of advice. Sadly, this board is NOT very busy!! We will be in Nassau from Feb 11-17

We can catch the $1 jitney in front of Breezes every 1/2 hour? for just $1? I understand they take you to straw market, but are there OTHER buses that can take you to Fish Fry or the port??? Each bus you get on costs $1?

Sadly, since I WILL NOT be on a cruise ship:( , I would also like to do some sort of sunset cruise or day trip around the island? Resort offers a 2.5 hour sunset cruise for $45 pp (transfers additional) - where are they taking you that you have to pay for transfer? Will we encounter anyone OFF the resort offering these type of tours for a reasonable price???

I want to plan a trip to Ardasta Gardens - how far away from our resort is this? The hotel offers a tour for $20, including transfers (only 2 1/2 hrs), but I would like to go and just pay the $12 entry fee. Can we catch a bus there??? How much would a taxi be for 4 people?

Interested in going to Atlantis one morning or afternoon to view the aquariums. Taxi from hotel around $18? and jitney and water taxi are just $4 pp???

Where do you catch the horse/buggy rides for $10 pp? DO they take you on a tour of the city? do they let you stop for pictures? Does a buggy only hold two people?

I have a printed walking tour that I believe scubagirl posted here some months back that we can do for FREE on our own, but also read of a wonderful woman at the visitors center that take you on the same tour for just $10 and she knows so much about the island. What to do? Will the walk be too much for anyone that is older?

I have around 8 people right now in our group that want to golf while on the island and Radisson Cable Beach Golf is nearby. Can they walk there? Catch a $1 bus??? I am searching for rates, if anyone knows. Can they rent just ONE set of clubs for 2 people to share???

I also have 7 interested in the dolphin encounters/swim and our resort charges $145 for 3 hours and transfers are additional. DOes anyone know where they take their guests for this event? I have searched on prices etc, and not sure what is open, best place for them to go etc. I think the resort price is a little high as to booking on your own?

I KNOW there is a bunch of questions here, but hoping to get some answers before our upcoming trip and decided to put all my questions in one spot for HELP!! I am sure I will have more and hope to get some advice soon!!

PS - Also, is there ANYWHERE in the Bahamas to swim with stingrays that are NOT captive???

Sorry, have been so busy planning this upcoming trip to the Bahamas and havent finished my review yet! I have a lot of information on the cabin (it was the BEST)!! And will email you in the morning.

I brought a power strip to use for battery charger. There is one extra outlet on the counter by tv and also there is an extra plug on extension cord behind tv. I have a detailed map from a fellow CCer that shows which elevators to use when going to different decks...came in handy and will send it.

BettyB2, you'll need for Scubagirrl to answer most of these as she lives in Nassau. I can only answer a few of them.

Yes, each jitney ride (small public bus) is $1. You'll have to ask someone at your hotel where the nearest bus stop is as they normally don't enter resorts and hotels but do drive by on the public road. The downtown stop is across from McDonalds and adjacent the Hilton. The strawmarket is a short stroll from there and the cruise docks another few blocks. Not familiar with the "Fish Fry" unless that's the place next to McDonalds. Please note that jitneys cannot cross over to Paradise Island as that would take business away from the taxi union.

You can go to Ardastra Gardens via the jitney. Tell the driver you want to get off at Arawak Cay and from there he'll point you towards Chippingham Road which heads inland and Ardastra is a block or so inland.

The water taxi is $4 per person but it leaves from the downtown wharf. So to utilize it you'd have to take a jitney or taxi downtown first and then walk to the departure point for the water taxis. The water taxi will take you to the foot of the Paradise Island Bridge and then you have to walk 2-3 blocks from there to get to Atlantis. If any of your clients are elderly you'd best settle for a taxi all the way versus the walking and switching. Keep in mind that the aquariums at Atlantis cost $25-30 to tour (not sure which figure, I've read both) and I think I've also read that you can't buy the aquarium tour at Atlantis but only from your ship or hotel. Not positive about this either. However, after about 8pm in winter the security guards go away and you can enter the aquariums for free. In my opinion, they're quite pretty and worth seeing for free, but for $25, no way! So if you're able to do it at night, I'd take a taxi and do it at night. The casino is more lively then as well.

Sorry, that's all I know.

I'll try and answer as best I can. See below

The #10 jitney will pick up out front every few minutes from 6am - 6:30pm (ish). The cost is #1 per person, payable when you leave the bus. Exact change is a must. This bus will take to downtown, as well as stop at the Fish Fry, near Ardastra Gardens, a block from the port and the straw market. Other buses take you to other, more suburban parts of Nassau.

Sadly, since I WILL NOT be on a cruise ship:( , I would also like to do some sort of sunset cruise or day trip around the island? Sunset cruises should be available thru your tour desk, as well as directly thru Majestic Tours (I think they are the same company). Transfers would be a mini bus that takes you to and from you boat (which is probably either downtown or on Paradise Island at the Ferry Terminal).. Good idea to get the transfer package, especially in the evening. Here's a link to Majestic http://www.majesticholidays.com/tours/excursiont/excursiont.htm

You can take the jitney and just walk the block from the main road to the entrance ($1 each on the #10 jitney). Just ask the driver to drop you off at Arawak Cay near the Ardastra Garden area. Then walk back to the main road from the Gardens. It's an easy and quick walk.

Interested in going to Atlantis one morning or afternoon to view the aquariums. Taxi from hotel around $18? and jitney and water taxi are just $4 pp???

Yes, this is true. This is a nice (and very scenic) way to do it. Water taxi's run every 30 minutes from downtown Nassau to Paradise Dock. 9am-5:30pm (or dusk in the wintertime)...

Entrance to the DIGS/Aquariums is $29 pp/ tickets available in the casino.

Where do you catch the horse/buggy rides for $10 pp? DO they take you on a tour of the city? do they let you stop for pictures? Does a buggy only hold two people?

You can find the Horse and buggy on the eastern part of the the Wharf, in front of Festival Place (you can't miss it if you're in the downtown wharf area. You can stop for photo ops.. Most buggy's hold 2 adults.. with room for a child.

I have a printed walking tour that I believe scubagirl posted here some months back that we can do for FREE on our own, but also read of a wonderful woman at the visitors center that take you on the same tour for just $10 and she knows so much about the island. Some of the walking tour goes up the hilly roads behind government house. It's fine for most people, but may not be for everyone. The Information Guide is Very informative.

I have around 8 people right now in our group that want to golf while on the island and Radisson Cable Beach Golf is nearby. Can they walk there? Catch a $1 bus??? I am searching for rates, if anyone knows. Can they rent just ONE set of clubs for 2 people to share???

Check with the Radisson. They have the answers.

http://www.radisson-cablebeach.com/golf.asp

The Golf Course entrance is nearby... but the walk from the main road to the club house is a bit of a schlep. The Jitney drops you at the front gate.

Not sure where the encounter will take place and which outfit will be in business when you arrive. At the moment, the Dolphin Encounter takes place on Blue Lagoon Island, off the north East coast of Paradise Island. You'll need to catch the Dolphin Experience ferry from the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal located under the bridge on Paradise Island. (worth paying for transfers). www.dolphinencounters.com

Atlantis is due to open a Dolphin Encounter very soon. But no date is set as of now.

None that I know of.. I see them from time to time while scuba diving, but in no particular place. At the moment, both Pearl Island and Blackbeards Cay have Stingrays in captivity. You can snorkel or swim in the pens with them.

Hope this helps !:)

Thanks Scuba and Kingbob sooo much for the information! :D What a great help you have been!!

Bob - from what I have learned, the "Fish Fry" is at Arawak Cay and very popular with tourists and locals. Many seafood restaurants along the way with very fresh fish cooked many ways. Supposed to be great and reasonably priced. I cannot wait to go there.

I know can plan ONE full day with the information and that is do Ardasta Garden and Fish Fry the same day. Cannot wait to fill the rest of the days. Getting married on Valentine's Day on Cable Beach!! YAHOOOOO

I will stay in touch and I am sure I will have a few more questions!!

(HEYYY, i just noticed the Smiley faces are in a different order...hmmmm)
