Looking for recent NCL Baths excursion info

We did the Baths excursion with NCL in March '16. When viewing excursion options for our upcoming cruise in Oct, it looks as though the Baths excursion is different.

When there in '16, we took a ferry to Virgin Gorda then an open air type bus transported us to the Baths where we then walked/crawled through them to the beach.

The excursion available now says that a boat takes you from the ship directly to a beach where you snorkel from the boat to the Baths and then walk through them.

Has anyone done this exact excursion? We aren't really interested in walking through them again. Although beautiful, it takes a decent amount of time and we would rather just get to the beachy area for some sun and fun. Is it possible to bypass the winding maze and just head straight to the beach?

If interested you could just ferry on your on and instead of going to Devil’s Bay have the driver take you to another beach. Savannah Bay is gorgeous, and you can also get dropped at the road that leads to Spring Bay which has similar topography to the Baths. That road is near the Top of the Baths.

The taxi driver will return at an agreed upon time and you can even stop for a lunch at the Top or at the Mineshaft Cafe, or in Spanishtown where you can walk back to the ferry...

There were 2 versions in May 2017, boat and snorkel option or the ferry/taxi and hike option. I did the latter as the reviews I’d read on the snorkel version suggested it could be difficult if the weather wasn’t cooperating. As it turned out the weather was fine for the snorkel to shore but plenty of the people who picked the ferry option found that a bit tough as it was a bit rough on the crossing between the islands.

We’ve been to the Baths while staying on Tortola and we have seen/met experienced swimmers/snorkeled struggling to get to shore from their moored boat. The under current and rip tides can be extremely dangerous during rougher seas and weather. So for anyone planning that option just use a knowledgeable and experienced captain. Some offer a dingy which is nice.

The ferry isn’t a problem to the vast majority of folks, but everyone is different and weather can certainly play a role.
