karenpoitras Posted August 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Hi, We will be sailing on the MSC Musica 9/2/18 from Venice. We have done over 30 cruises in North America, but never in Europe and never on MSC. Does anyone have any info/experience with the time required to get from the ship to the Marco Polo airport (on a Sunday)? Security lines, debarkation time etc.? :o Our flight is very early-take off only 2 hrs 55 mins after posted "Arrival" time back in Venice on last day. It was the only flight out that day. I am very nervous that we are going to miss our flight. Any information will be helpful. Thanks, Karen
hallasm Posted August 13, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2018 Might depend a little of airline and the destination of your flight. You can walk straight off the ship once it's cleared - no immigration or security lines at disembarkation.- then it is a 20 minutes drive from the pier to the airport - very small airport, however can by quite busy. Assume you will arrive Sunday morning before the big rush. You need to check latest check-in time for your airline/destination. Should be possible to be at the airport around one hour after ship arrival.
vickiw0318 Posted August 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2018 I reserved a shuttle via http://www.airport-shuttle.com. Driver was there when they said he would be and it was a quick trip to the airport.
Rare Hlitner Posted August 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2018 There will be very little hassle from the authorities. As the other post says, it is about 20-25 min driving time from the Port to the airport. If you plan on just using a regular taxi that can be an issue as demand for taxis can exceed supply which would mean a delay. Some folks prefer to book a transfer (online) and there is usually the option of some kind of transfer provided (for a price) by the cruise line. The problem with flying out of Marco Polo is the airport, which simply sucks (hard to think of a better word). Give yourself plenty of time at the airport (3 hours is wise....less then 2 hours would be near suicidal). On the other hand we once arrived at the airport for a morning flight home only to find that the airline counter was not even staffed. About 1 1/2 hours before our flight a few employees showed-up and started checking-in folks. That flight left 40 minutes late because of the incompetence. But its Italy and these kind of things just seem to happen. Hank
flamomo Posted August 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2018 I prefer to use the cruise lines transfer from ship to airport. When getting off a Princess ship to return to the US, Princess provided an escort who walked with us from where the the transfer buses stopped right into the terminal at the airport, and pointed us to the appropriate lines for our check-in once inside. Made things very easy, making it worth the cost.
