lynngould1 Posted June 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Hi. I'm looking at the Galaxy out of Galveston, and have a question. Is Houston the nearest airport, and about how many miles is it? Maybe that's two questions. Thanks. Vicky

winkle Posted June 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2004 you can also fly into Hobby Airport which is a 35-40 minute drive to Galveston. Bush Airport is totally on the other side of the city and it will be about a one hour commute at least. There are shuttles and limo services from Hobby, as well as taxis. nealberk Posted June 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Go with the shuttle services. Galveston airport is tiny and really has no good connections.

Randyk47 Posted June 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2004 There's quite a bit of information here www.galvestoncruises.com through the links. Until Galaxy
eagleswings Posted June 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Vicky. When in the winter are you cruising? I am also cruising the Galaxy this winter. I found Randyk47's info very helpful. Mark
Randyk47 Posted June 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Thanks for the kind comment Mark. I'm kind of AR about planning for cruises and I've studied, planned, studied some more and replanned the plan a number of times. I've talked Lou (Lougee1043) and his lovely wife into joining us and now he's recruited another couple from one of his previous cruises and we're still working on 2 or 3 more couples from other cruises. With the CC'ers who are going on the March 21 cruise we could have quite a group! Until Galaxy
houtex Posted June 16, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 16, 2004 If you get a chance, spend a day in Galveston before or after your cruise. As a Houstonian, I get down there a lot and it is a very interesting city with a lot of history, some of which you might not expect. For example, they have a really excellent flight museum with a great collection of old planes. That is right next to the Moody Gardens, which has a wonderful aquarium, rainforest, and IMAX. The Strand area, very near the cruise terminal, is a historic shopping area with some good restaurants and some historic attractions of its own (like a railroad museum and a theater showing a multi-media presentation on the Great Storm of 1900). Lots of old houses, several of which you can tour. An easy place to spend a day or two if you can spare the time.
lynngould1 Posted June 17, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Hi. Mark, I don't have anything booked yet. Still analyzing a ton of stuff. This working for a living gets in the way of my vacation time Galveston sounds like a fun place to spend a few days before or after, Randy, you'll have a ton of fun in March. It's absolutely the best when you get to know your fellow cruisers before-hand.
