PoolSlider Posted September 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2018 We have a cruise stop at Tilbury and need recommendations for a car service that would be willing to take our group to some places in Kent. Any suggestions?
PhilbeachTraveller Posted September 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2018 There is a little passenger ferry that leaves from beside the cruise terminal and takes you to Gravesend in Kent. Quicker and cheaper to go from there but you'll need to check what day you're there as the ferry as they don't run on a Sunday or Bank Holidays. Only takes about 10 minutes to get to Kent, Just look up Tilbury to Gravesend timetable. Depending on where you want to go, there are taxi firms in Gravesend and a train station (goes to Rochester, Whitstable, Ramsgate) and there is the high speed train station at Ebsfleet which you can get a taxi to and go to Canterbury (about an hour). PoolSlider Posted September 16, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Im actually looking for a service that will drive my family to Sissinghurst and Great Dixter. We are garden nuts and want to spend a few hours smelling the roses. I've had great success with car services out of Southampton and other U.K. ports but google is not turning up anything from Tilbury. Are there any taxi companies that might help me out? Morgans Posted September 16, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Time constraints? Is this just for a day's port of call? If so, not sure there will be time.....
PoolSlider Posted September 16, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted September 16, 2018 7 am to 7pm. I figure 2 hours down and 2 hours back. Allow 1 hour leeway. That still leaves a solid 6-7 hours of rose-sniffing. I'm not a nervous Nellie type.
PhilbeachTraveller Posted September 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2018 (edited) We've used Addison Lee from Tilbury . You can get a quote online and they were prompt and very good. Maybe compare between going from Tilbury or from Gravesend. It would save you a lot of time not having to get through the Dartford crossing. Globaliser Posted September 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2018 We've used Addison Lee from Tilbury.Did Addison Lee take you far out into the countryside? I didn't think that that was their kind of trip. Part of me wonders whether a simple car rental for the day might not be the best answer for this. Bob++ Posted September 17, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Tilbury to Sissinghurst is about 50 miles. Hiring a taxi for a whole day will be expensive - far better to hire a car as Globaliser suggests. Getting to Sissinghurst is pretty straightforward; over the QE2 toll bridge, then follow the M25 to the A21 and the A262. Great Dixter is about 10 miles further on and down country lanes. You would be well advised to use a satnav (GPS).
