Wansbrough Posted November 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2018 (edited) Does anyone have any experience of the MSC Houseboat Cruise excursion in Cochin? The listing is as follows Quote About a 1-hour coach ride to the south of Cochin lies the town of Alleppey (also known as Alappuzha) and the wonderful Kerala backwaters, a chain of brackish lagoons that flank the Arabian Sea. This tour gives you an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful area on a traditional thatched kettuvallam houseboat. Also dubbed the Venice of the East by Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905, the network of canals and backwaters feeds the coconut plantations and paddy fields that fuel the local economy. After reaching the town of Alleppey and boarding the kettuvallam, you ll head for the town of Kumarakom on the eastern shores of Lake Vembanad, the longest in India. Next to giving you time to relax and simply savour the lush surroundings, the kettuvallam cruise will also give you a chance to see how people live and attend to their daily chores on the banks of the waterways. A final treat awaits you on your return to Cochin, where you will get to have a look at the town s famous Chinese fishing nets before you get back to the port and your ship. Please note: all sites will be viewed from the boat during the cruise. This tour is considered to be unsuitable for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair.
