DrOfBytes Posted January 16, 2019 #27 Share Posted January 16, 2019 Would anybody be able to venture a guess on the odds of being able to cruise in to Fiordlands in early March? I've seen several cruisers post that their ship had to bypass this beautiful place due to weather events. We're scheduled to sail there on March 8th aboard Majestic Princess. I'm from the US and have never been to Australia or New Zealand. I have no idea of what to expect weather-wise there that time of year. Thanks in advance! Rare MicCanberra Posted January 17, 2019 #28 Share Posted January 17, 2019 The weather can be too unpredictable to say. Ships often get into the sounds but then there are those that miss, not necessarily because of the weather at the sounds for your visit but more likely weather getting there or leaving there. The few days either side may be the determinate, the sail across the Tasman may be stormy, which will delay your arrival and/or you may have to miss the sounds in order to avoid a rough journey going back to Australia. MargoK Posted January 17, 2019 #29 Share Posted January 17, 2019 On our the second leg back in Milford Sound on the 2 Jan we had to put up with the fog horn all night) wasn't too bad sleep through it). The sea fog and low cloud cleared at the last moment allowing the Majestic Princess in! Truly magnificent. We have got in 5 out of 5. It is the luck of the draw.
