mae west Posted January 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2006 we have a party of 8 booked for alsaka in july, we have a full week land trip after the cruise and want to know if the ships have washers and driers. since we are allowed one piece of luggage it sure would help to be able to was some things near the end of the cruise.:)
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2006 You didn't mention which cruise line you will be traveling on. On HAL's R and S class there are self serve laundries. But on their new Vista class ships - nothing.
Cotton Posted January 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2006 I'm curious. Which cruiseline limits you to only ONE piece of luggage? Also - When asking questions, it helps if you say which cruiseline or ship you will be on.:)
Sheffie Posted January 22, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Mae West, I have never heard of cruiselines limiting the number of pieces of luggage. The airlines DO limit the number of pieces of luggage to 2, with each weighing no more than 50 pounds, over which you will pay a fee. You are also allowed on purse type carry-on and one rolling carry-on by the airline. RCI and Celebrity ships also do not have self-service laundry. There are laundry services that you pay for that aren't horribly expensive. Have fun planning your cruise!
wrp96 Posted January 22, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2006 It sounds like they are doing a cruisetour before or after, and the amount of luggage is limited on those due to lack of luggage space on the buses.

cruisinbuddy Posted January 22, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2006 I believe Princess & Carnival well some of their ships anyways, have self laundry room. Apparently expensive and they run out of soar for you to buy. Maybe bring your own. Now we don't want any white powder substace in a zip lock baggie so get the smallest box you can & don't open it til you get on the ship
PurpleCow Posted January 22, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Generally when you do a cruise tour the cruise line stores your extra luggage for the duration of the tour. So while you may take only one piece of luggage on the tour, you may take as much as you want on the cruise.
Happy ks Posted January 23, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2006 Generally when you do a cruise tour the cruise line stores your extra luggage for the duration of the tour. So while you may take only one piece of luggage on the tour, you may take as much as you want on the cruise. That's what I thought, too! You really have to give the name of your cruiseline, though, some have them, some don't. We cruised on Celebrity Infinity and they do not have self serve laundry, but we sent a few items out for washing, mostly jeans. It was well worth not having to do laundry on a vacation! We spend extra time in Vancouver afterward and made it a point to find a hotel with laundry. There were 4 of us, so packing for the cruise and land portion was a challenge! TxTweetyPie Posted January 25, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2006 We have made the Alaska + Land Tour Cruise twice (Holland America & Princess). Both ships had laundry facilities. It costs about $2 for washer & $2 for Dryer (quarters only..so bring your own). They also had irons & ironing boards. Matter of fact, on all the ships that I have cruised, they have had washers & dryers. Our trips were AWESOME! Have Fun! we have a party of 8 booked for alsaka in july, we have a full week land trip after the cruise and want to know if the ships have washers and driers. since we are allowed one piece of luggage it sure would help to be able to was some things near the end of the cruise.:)
breenw Posted January 25, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Carnival and Princess both have self serve laundry. If you don't bring your own soap (the little Wisk cubes work great), or if the machine in the laundry room runs out, you can go to the Purser's desk and they will give you some for free. CruiseDuck Posted January 26, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Has anyone ever had their laundry done by the ship? Do they charge by the piece or by the weight? We will be on the Golden in August and would like to limit what we take. The self serve laundry on the ships are always crowded.
Big Al B. Posted January 26, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Another possibility is to use the laundry facilities at whatever hotel you are staying in on your land portion. Or look for a nearby laundromat.
