robertmartha Posted April 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2019 Saw the posting about late March - what about late December Barcelona to Rome? Have read a few reviews posted - all seem positive regarding ports - what about seas? Have never sailed in Europe at this time of year so no idea what the seas could be like (I know never a guarantee based on the past!) A few overnights on the sailing we are looking at over New Years - but curious what the Med is like this time year? Since it is a holiday I do anticipate crowds - but not anywhere as crowded as summer months and have river cruised during the Christmas- New Year time frame so have a sense of what to pack a for that time of year. thanks to all for any feedback you can provide
FionaGal Posted April 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2019 Not exactly late December, but we sailed Dec 1-8 from Rome to Barcelona. The Mediterranean was calm with a few evenings of very gentle movement on board. Temps were mild, pretty much 60 in every port. The locals were dressed more heavily than the tourists, with winter clothes. A light packable down jacket was just right. Crowds in Rome were considerably lighter than in July when we were last there, and the temps were a huge improvement. We learned our lesson not to travel in summer!
