  1. Question Everything - had to laugh 😂. My DW said to me yesterday "we could do a land vacation you know"...to which I did not respond 😆 except with a deep exhale.
  2. So glad its not just me feeling this way.... Was planning on a cruise with our adult daughters and their SO's (so yes 3 cabins).... should have booked with the prior promo. Will wait and see once this promo ends where the pricing ends up. We were looking at several different sailings (have to when you are trying to coordinate 6 schedules) and each ones price increase was more ridiculous then the other....and this for sailings in 2025.
  3. 2SailingNomads - curious what you thought was better on Regent? - better on Seabourn? Keep looking at prices and sailings for next year on Seabourn - and they really are seriously inflated from just a few weeks ago.
  4. Thanks all - I am glad I am not the only one who had sticker shock when I looked at pricing today. The current two category upgrade sale is in effect till 4/30.....so time will tell. Bob
  5. Just checked out their latest promotion (since the previous one expired yesterday) and the sailing we were looking at increased $1000 for the cabin... the new promotion is a 2 category upgrade but the price for the same category yesterday vs today is now $1,000 more for the cabin. I snoozed and lost 😔
  6. In the fall we had a standing room service order for a pot of coffee (black -nothing else) for two at 6am. You could set your watch to the delivery each morning - and it was piping hot. Best way to start the day (while I checked work emails from the prior day) 😔 We have done this on all our Seabourn sailings...never an issue
  7. thanks Mnocket Never a guarantee one year to the next but actually looking at a sept sailing (first week) next year - was hoping at that time the midges would be fewer. Home was the weather ? Bob
  8. cruiser - can you elaborate on your experiences? The sailings I am looking at would either leave from REK and do 3 upper west coast ports OR leave from Dover and do 3 NE ports (clockwise) ending in REK. thanks Bob
  9. Looking at an Iceland sailing for next year. Since I am still only to take a week of vacation (without having a complete breakdown) would love to hear from those who have done one / other / or both itinerary's / ports and your experiences - thoughts. Very concerned about the midges...which seem to prevalent in the northern ports in the summer - even into the first week of September. Even with face netting - not sure that we want to deal with them 😂quite honestly. From what I have been reading / researching, ports are very different. Thanks all
  10. Disembarked yesterday ... as you can tell - very little time to post during the sailing. Fabulous cruise and staff. Ovation spotless. I am definitely leaning more toward larger ports/cities and or ports that I can get out there adventure wise. The small ports while charming are quite limited in terms of what can be offered and or what is offered by Seabourn in terms of excursions unless you want to go the route of a private river and car. Also they definitely need to upgrade their treadmills in the gym.... fortunately the weather Gods were on our side this week in Europe and I was able to run in most ports along the waterfronts (one of my goals for the trip). Any questions - ask away - happy to answer any specific questions if I can. Bob
  11. Vineyard Just disembarked Ovation. We were upgraded a few days prior to sailing to 747 - next to a "white space". While I was not happy about it (and never would have booked this cabin since it was next to a white space AND a connecting cabin) - happy to report no issues AT ALL. Actually liked not having a cabin / balcony next to us and we never heard the cabin next door throughout the entire sailing - in fact if I had not seen our stewards cleaning it - would never have guessed people were next door! Bob
  12. TY Braidmacd - we have yet to make it to TK bar - last night had pre-dinner drinks in the club. Better vibe in the Observation Lounge but it was packed when we went up around 7pm. Anyone on a future sailing - rest assured all is well on the Ovation (at least for us). Service top notch - staff as friendly and accommodating as always (except they do not have any Riesling on board ... but just as happy with the GrÃŧner Veltliner they are pouring! Great mix on fellow passengers - as usual mix of Brits, Americans and Australians - this cruise definitely skewing MUCH younger then our May Alaska sailing. Portovenere - absolute lovely port even though our excursion was cancelled to three of the 5 towns (rough seas) - port was charming and would return in a heartbeat. Off to breakfast in a few Any questions - ask away. Happy to answer ! Internet has been great - able to work for a few hours each morning 😔 at sea or in port without issue.
  13. Good Monday morning from Portovenere! Sorry for not posting yesterday.....went for a early morning run in Rome Sunday morning - 1/4 way thru the skys opened up and it poured! Made it back to our hotel - breakfast and Rome Cabs (right on time) to the port. The winds were strong to say the least. Moderate waves once we sailed away - pre dinner drinks in the observation lounge. Went down to the restaurant around 7:30 - walking up to the podium the new restaurant manager at the podium was the Colonade manager on the Odyssey in May!!!! Great table for the 6 of us - Johannas from South Africa took great care of us - already requested the table for the week (if possible). Rolling seas overnight to say the least! Off to explore now - more to come! Bob
  14. jjb415 - TY for the update, Was watching the weather all week and it did look like you had a bit of rain and wind this past week. Update for us - arrived in Rome this morning. Flight was an hour and 20 minutes early! Scheduled to land at 9:20 and landed at 8:05! JFK was a bit of a zoo last night as was the delta lounge but great flight in Delta Select - Rome Cabs waiting for us and dropped us promptly at our hotel. Rooms of course not ready that early so walked to a nearby cafe for an espresso and then walked around a bit till noon when our rooms were ready. Freshened up and walked some sites - it was "free weekend" in Rome so the area around the Colosseum was mobbed and the line for free tickets was really long so we walked around the Colosseum (outside) and other sites - late afternoon snack and back to the room for a long overdue shower before dinner near our hotel at a recommended "local" restaurant. Planning for a nice relaxing dinner and call it an early night to catch up on sleep. Was hoping to et in an early run in the morning but weather forecast is for showers till about 9:30-10am (and check out is 11) so will see what the morning brings ! Till tomorrow from the Ovation !
  15. TY all for the tips and well wishes! Bill - nice to meet you. Congratulations on your retirement. The one couple traveling with us - they both retired in October..so in a sense it is a retirement cruise for them and for the other lucky 3 (except me ☚ī¸) who retired during different times. We have been friends since college and have shared all of life's milestones and everything else life can throw at you - we are a lively crew so I am sure we will meet! Mark - will look for the ladies - what a way to celebrate a birthday! Actually have an eye on a cruise for next year on my birthday!!!!
  16. As I did in May from our Odyssey Alaska sailing - will be boarding the Ovation on Sunday for 7 days - Western Mediterranean - so will try to post daily for those who want to follow along or have questions about the Ovation. This will be our third Seabourn sailing ...so we are relative newbies having only sailed on the Odyssey previously. Sailing with two other couples - our closest friends since college days - we have many, many, many memories together and are the only "friends" we would ever think about traveling with! We are all retired except me 😔 which is why my wife and I are still doing 7 day sailings... We are/were all booked on deck 5 - V1's...but this week when we went to download our docs we were upgraded to a V3 on deck 7... a connecting room next to the white space on the deck plan (which I know is an interior crew staircase). Would I have picked this cabin - no...but based on these boards the interior crew staircase should not present any noise issues and hopefully we have quiet neighbors next door 😂! Flying out tonight - spending the day (Saturday) and overnight in Rome and we transfer to Civitavecchia on Sunday morning using Rome Cabs (thank you CC board!) Bob from NY
  17. wyattsaunt - TY. We board a week from today (Rome to Barcelona). TY for the waiter recommendation - always find the right waiter/team can make The Restaurant experience that much more enjoyable for us. This will be our third Seabourn cruise - first on the Ovation - so looking forward to getting away with our closest friends who we have not traveled with in some time. Bob from NY
  18. TY Cruiseej - looked up Azur Connection - looks exactly what we are looking for. Emailed them already. Will keep you and everyone posted if we book something with them. Plan on posting when we are on board in about 5 weeks !!!!!!
  19. Was on the Odyssey in May (inside passage) and had no issues checking in for work (and working for an hour or so each day) even when we were in some remote areas. Logging in with my laptop and logging off was simple - not an issue at all. Bob
  20. Utopia1 - are you sailing on Ovations 14 day RT Oct into Nov from Barcelona? We are only on the second leg - Rome to Barcelona. SunViking - TY for the recommendation Bob
  21. Sailing to St Tropez in early November - checked out the ports section - very few posts so thought I would post on the Seabourn board since Seabourn stops here on several of their sailings. Only a handful of excursions offered thru the line so I was hoping for any advice and or recommendations of excursions or experiences. Have been searching on my own and while their seem to be quite a few charming towns nearby and Nice is about an hour and half away...I cannot locate any private tours / companies offering day trips. We are in port till 11pm so really have the entire day into evening for a great day trip.....if we can find one ! 😂 thanks - Bob
  22. Totally agree Hobar - if an opportunity presents itself - take it. And agree completely on having the opportunity to sail on Seabourn - after the first day on our first sailing my wife looked at me and said there is no going back 😂
  23. Wow - what a rollercoaster this thread is! If I have the opportunity someday - I would definitely do it ! Bob
  24. Jondfk - your sailing next August on Oceania - Alaska RT again? If so that should be an interesting comparison to Seabourn.
  25. Thank you Jondfk for all your posts and bringing us all along on your sailing! Brought back fond memories of our May sailing! Our rule of thumb is a standing room service order for a pot of coffee - 2 cups - no milk/sugar at 6am every day. Everyone always says - but your on vacation! - but to us having coffee in our robes on the balcony is the best way to start every day of vacation! Where are you off to next? Bob
