NapTown Jim Posted January 25, 2006 #26 Share Posted January 25, 2006 Lola, Thanks for the review. I enjoy reading about the experiences others have on 'the Dam Ships'. Its been almost 3 years since I've had a proper vacation where I felt relaxed and refreshed. It helps me to live vicariously through the experiences of others as I look forward to my own first cruise. You can be sure I will write my own extensive review of my experiences to return the favor! This was a 4 day cruise, yes? Did you and your family come back wishing the cruise was longer? I saw from your photos your brother seemed to be hitting the champaigne and beer pretty hard. How high was his bar tab if you don't mind me asking? I'm don't care much for wine, did they have a decent beer selection? I'm aksing because I don't like to drink much, so when I do drink beer I generally stick with premium or specialty brews like 'Blue Moon', 'JW Dundee Honey Lager' or my all time favorite 'La Fin Du Monde'

My brother can hold his alcolhol but he was never drunk. the champage pics were for a joke mainly. there was about 1/8th of the bottle left. He drank beer bceause it was cheap on the islands and mexico! His bar tab was about 140$... but everyone was always taking turns buying rounds. They do of course have Amstel and Heiniken as well as guiness but with blue moon, i dunno. :o We all drank more than we normally do because... hey, we are on holiday! but not so much that we were even tipsy! LolaWiz Posted January 26, 2006 Author #30 Share Posted January 26, 2006 did you visit the Neptune Lounge and , if so, how was it? (You may have posted this earlier....) I did visit it alot! :) It was nice being just a few steps (ok a bit more) from it. We were on the 7th floor right at the part where the ship got a bit wider going aft. My husband and I really enjoyed the snacks they had the whole day, especially the appitizers right before dinner made with cucumber, salmon cheese, etc. We also got on an espresso high ;) everyday as it was always available for us. IT was so nice to have several different types and kinds of coffees from lattes to espresso anytime. Also it was so wonderful to just go there and talk to the conciarge if we needed something. They were most helpful in getting 2 more added to our cabana butler service, adding us to the vow renewals for my in laws, and just general help. They were always very friendly. I would get a suite again without thinking about it. Also, it was SO wonderful being able to get ANYTHING washed, pressed and dry cleaned for free! We even got my husbands suit drycleaned. jlof Posted January 26, 2006 #31 Share Posted January 26, 2006 That sounds great about the Neptune Lounge. We are in a suite but on the 6th floor--mid ship. I hope that won't make us use the lounge less often. It sounds great. What are the hours? Also--did you have breakfast or lunch in the Pinnacle grill and , if so, how was that? Thanks! The hours i forgot... maybe 7am to 9pm and its a bit different on port days vs sea days. :( anyways, i did not eat at the pinnacle for breakfast or lunch just because others in our party could not join us, but the conciarge of the pinnicle asked if we were going to be able to. He is a great guy. Very nice and quite charming ;)
capnjoe Posted January 26, 2006 #33 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Lola... that was the best review! Your detailed anaylsis of the ship was terrific, as for table 30, I took your advice and and asked to be seated at that table, Amanda from HAL said she is almost positive I will have the table I requested :D Now just to make sure, it is on the upper level right:confused: Again thank you for your great review, we are more excited about our 4/2 trip on the Westerdam. Also your picture album was awsome! Thanks again cappy
debjo Posted January 27, 2006 #34 Share Posted January 27, 2006 For LolaWiz... Never apologize for a LONG review...as far as I'm concerned...the longer the better! Thanks for taking the time to post it. I really appreciated all the details and have made some notes for my upcoming WESTERDAM cruise. Robrph Posted February 15, 2006 #36 Share Posted February 15, 2006 Lola: TERRIFIC review!!! We're considering the Westerdam for a December cruise to the eastern caribbean which would be our first cruise on HAL. How do you respond to comments that HAL is for old, stuffy, wheelchair or walker-bound cruisers that go to sleep right after dinner? We're in our late 50s and while we can't stand the Carnival party-boat atmosphere, we WOULD like to enjoy activities in the evening. Is there anything to do after dinner besides going to the Neptune Lounge or the casino? Any late-night deck or pool parties?
