Oslo cruise terminal

The main pier at Akershuskaia is right in the city center in front of the city hall. It’s about 5 minutes walk to the city hall and another 5 to the National Theater and main pedestrian street Karl Johans gate.

However, not all ships dock at Akershuskaia. Vippetangen is another 5 minutes out in the same area. Rivierkaia is on the other side of the peninsula towards the opera house. Still central, but not quite as convenient. Lastly, Filipstad is west of town near the Color Ferry terminal, and about 15 minutes walk to the center.

You can find the pier assignments here:

SAK=Akershuskaia, VIP=Vippetangen, REV=Revierkaia, FIL=Filipstad.

Kaisatsu do taxis from the airport to the cruise terminal take credit cards?

Yes. It costs a small fortune, so cards are a necessity. A fixed-rate taxi during the day will cost between 700 and 1500 NOK depending on the company. http://priser.taxidepot.no/price_offers Be sure to request the fixed price beforehand! Preferably, use the computer kiosk in the terminal to input your destination and choose a company beforehand, since the price variations between taxi companies are significant (you never have to take the first taxi in the queue).

Most people choose to take the train into the city, and then take a taxi from the Oslo S central train station to their final destination. Not only is it generally cheaper, it’s also faster, since the trains run on high-speed tracks. The local Vy (formerly called NSB) trains are 105 NOK and depart 3 times per hour. The Flytoget airport trains run every 10-20 minutes and costs 198 NOK. (Seniors travel for half price on both.)

Also, if your cruise is departing from Oslo, be sure to know where your ship will depart from. Most cruises that embark/disembark in Oslo do not use the main cruise terminal as there’s not enough space for check-in, parking, etc.

Kaisatsu, thank you for the information on the taxis & trains from Oslo Airport, the trains are a lot more economical, if it is not too far to walk with our suitcases to the platform we will catch the train.

Our ship is going to be docked at Filipstad cruise terminal, we will take a taxi from Oslo Central station to the cruise terminal.

Thanks for the info. in #2 Kentish belle.  We appear to be docking at REV (Rivierkaia) in early August.  You mention that is not so convenient, but how easy is it to get the ferry to the Viking museum from there?

If not so easy to get to the Viking Museum, can you suggest anywhere else?

The Oslo airport is fairly small. The train platforms run under the terminal and are to the right when you exit international baggage claim. Not far at all, and there are escalators and elevators down to the platform from the ticket machines.

At Oslo S, the main taxi stand is to the left when you enter the station hall from the platforms. The Nationaltheatret station right after Oslo S is actually slightly closer to Filipstad and is covered by the same ticket, but taxis aren’t always as readily available from the station.

If you aren’t set on taking the ferry, the Tollboden bus stop is quite close to the Revierkaia pier: https://goo.gl/maps/nvVnMsKJXrUKG6L58 From there you can catch the bus #30 towards Bygdøy (runs every 10 minutes) which stops outside the Viking ship museum.

If you really want to take the ferry, you can take most of the streets west away from the waterfront towards the other side of the peninsula. The pier by the city hall is about 15 minutes’ walk.

Thank you for that very informative reply.  Bus sounds good to me.
