For those on a b2b cruise (coming from or going to Southampton), here is an idea for a short NYC tour. Take the NYC Ferry from the Red Hook dock ($2.75 per person, each way) towards Wall Street, Pier 11. Get off there, walk two blocks north, stop for lunch at Industry Kitchen restaurant, walk some more, and when you are ready, return to Pier 11. Take the South Brooklyn ferry back to Red Hook and the Queen  Mary 2. The ferry takes about 20-25 minutes from Red Hook to Pier 11.
