Mormugao, India

We will be docking in Mormagao, in Goa, for two days next February, but have seen Old Goa, a spice farm and some temples on a previous land holiday, and also spent a couple of days and evenings in Panjim.  We loved all of those things but do not particularly want to repeat them.  We are just a twosome.

We would prefer to just go off with a taxi to see some of South Goa, including some inland places, but we are not sure how easy it will be to pick up a taxi at the port, so can anyone advise please?  Are there taxis available at the port, and, if so how much do they charge for a day, or perhaps just half a day?

As an alternative, is there a beach we can get to easily so we can just have a taxi take us there and pick up another one when we are ready to return?  I do not get the impression there is anything near the port, but again any advice about that would be very welcome.

Mormagao is an industrial port for the export of iron ore. It is very dirty and dusty from the iron ore, it is also wet where the ore is sprayed to keep the dust down. When we were there, taxis were not allowed inside. Not much to do in Mormagao town.

Having researched before we went, we ended up taking a ships excursion to the beach - great day.

Thanks for the reply, that is what we were thinking and may be difficult to find a taxi.  We were thinking of taking an excursion the first day (possibly the beach one), then trying for a taxi the next day as we will have had time to explore what is available.
