Marymcgol1 Posted July 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2019 Thinking about a river cruise and wondering if water levels are an issue for Bordeaux or Douro River itineraries. Any insight would be appreciated.

Any insight would be appreciated. I recently was on the Duoro and the guide told us low river is not a problem because the river is very deep. There is the possibility of high river and not fitting under bridges.
notamermaid Posted July 20, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2019 At Bordeaux you are on the Garonne and the itinerary sails towards the sea on the estuary/Gironde I believe. The Garonne is tidal there and one German website gives the tidal range at Bordeaux as still up to one metre. The river is deep enough for seagoing vessels so you have no problems with low water. Flooding might be possible - which could affect you especially sailing under bridges. The tidal nature might have some special sailing conditions I am not familiar with. I hope past cruisers can answer you with more details about the Garonne. notamermaid
gadugger Posted October 2, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2019 Are there any websites which will show current water levels on the Douro. We will be on the AmaDouro embarking Nov. 16.
