udamom Posted July 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2019 Hi new to RCI and made Prime last time on our first voyage. I'm leaving next Sunday on HOTS and am wondering how much the discount that is listed in the gambling brochure under Prime benefits is? Is it good on only 1 device or can you buy a multi-device package for a discount? I wanted to get a 4 device package and was just wondering if it is cheaper to just buy it online then to wait and go to the casino host. They are always so busy on the first day. Thanks for any info Trish
sushitex Posted July 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2019 Hello, my husband and I are also RCCL newbies - we went on our first cruise with them during the week of July 4th. I don't gamble, but husband likes playing the tables in the casinos and he earned Prime on the very last night of our cruise. When we called (a few days after our cruise ended) to redeem the certificate earned for a free cruise (2400 points) we spoke with a very nice Casino Royale agent, Donna Hillderbrandt. She was kind enough to email us both a nice letter explaining exactly what husband had just earned, and what he will earn next April, when the comp cruises become available. Getting to your question, she also noted that Prime members receive a 30 % discount for the Unlimited Surf & Stream Wi-fi packages, which must be purchased onboard. Signature members get 1 device for free, Masters get 2 devices free, both are Unlimited Surf & Stream packages. I don't know much about the wi-fi packages in general, because we have always avoided using those during our previous cruises. So I can't help you with multiple-device packages, other than telling you that the email said Prime members receive the 30% discount, but no free devices. I hope this helps! udamom Posted July 22, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted July 22, 2019 Thank you Sushi! So that sounds like it may actually be cheaper to just buy it now on the cruise planner as those prices say 50% off. I really dislike the way packages for everything jump around in price trying to get you to buy them. Just set a damn price and stick with it! Congrats on Prime! Table games are sometimes hard to get your play recognized and get rewards for so glad he did! My husband and I both made Prime on our first sailing in April but since we are with UrComped don't get reward directly from the cruise line but from UrComped. So figuring out this new system is a little tricky for me (Long time NCL CAS guest) Thanks for replying Trish
sushitex Posted July 23, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2019 For that first Royal cruise, I know that I booked, then cancelled and re-booked, our beverage packages and at least one shore excursion, because the prices went down due to an online sale. I guess I will be doing that from now on, although it looks like as long as husband remains prime, he won't need a package...he can head over to the casino for something to drink, and if it's closed, there's always the Windjammer (we liked the iced tea) and on the Liberty, there was also tea or punch at the Cafe Promenade. I like that the casino host on the Liberty gave husband a brochure explaining the tier system. He did earn a casino certificate for a free cruise on Carnival during one cruise, as well as free drinks while drinking in the casino on our last Carnival cruise, but we honestly have never found out what triggered him earning the certificate or free drinks. He doesn't know what level he is with them (their whole system is one big mystery to us...) We have been on 3 Norwegian cruises, enjoyed them as well, but their casino reward system is yet another mystery that was never explained to him. Thanks for any info Trish Hi Trish, It looks like we may be on the same sailing and I am also new to RCI Casino comp and sailing Sunday on HOTS in a comp Jr. Suite for the first time with them. Although I haven’t sailed with them yet, I am supposed to be receiving the drink card and benefits of Prime status with the internet. I called about the rate and was told told it is 30% off the ship rate (whatever rate that is) but if I wanted to book the sail rate in my profile and if the rate onboard is cheaper, that I could cancel the first day and purchase at the lower rate. Unfortunately I actually need to do some work on this trip I will need access, so I purchased the Voom and will see if what I was told pans out. If not, no harm no foul. Because I normally do CAS on NCL, I am still trying to get the lay of the land with their program.
udamom Posted July 23, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted July 23, 2019 Teeredi Hi Our last cruise was our first on RCI thru UrComped. To get the drinks in the casino you will just have to go to the casino host desk and have them put a prime sticker on your card. I did not know about the internet discount last time so had bought Voom ahead of time (it worked good on Liberty) Still doesn't sound like it is a deal if it is 30% off ship prices. Will probably buy it ahead of time again and not bother dealing with it onboard. Their program is much more straight forward to me then NCL. You earn a certificate that you will receive on the last night in your cabin based on play for the week. 2400 points get you an inside,3600 OV,4800 Balcony, 8000 Jr Suite This is for certain cruises that are listed on the certificate. If you don't want one of those your certificate is worth X amount of money towards next cruise (I think our Jr suite one was worth $1500) I don't know if you play table games or slots/VP. Obviously slots/vp is much easier to track where you are with points and know what you are earning. Table games always seem to get ripped off in how much they play vs what they earn (my son is a craps player ) NCL is better in that you can find your own cruise and call (if they ever answer the phone!!) and they will tell you if you qualify for it and how much it will be. NCL has just upped their prices so much for "comped" casino cruises (taxes port fee admin fees etc) The Jr Suite on HOTS was $240 total to get onboard. Anyway probably more info then you wanted See you in the casino. I'll be the 50something blond playing Video poker constantly
