TNT1981 Posted April 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2004 We are sailing with Carnivale out of Miami but will be staying a couple of nights in Fort Lauderdale. Can anyone give me some advice on where to eat and things to do while we are there. We will have 2 teenage girls to keep busy while trying to keep them away from the teenage boys! nosnobunny Posted April 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2004 You could try the Water Taxi. There are several connecting routes that travel along the inland waterways of Ft. Lauderdale right out to the beach area. We bought an all-day pass ($12 PP?) and you can get off and on as you like. We parked our car at a parking lot off Las Olas and 9th. The water taxi stop is right there. It's a different way to see parts of the city you might not otherwise see. We stopped to shop, got back on for a bit and wound up having dinner at the 15th Street Fishery. Dinner for 2 was $85 and that included 2 cocktails. Pricey but very good seafood. Rare finoky Posted April 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Beth you must have had a much nicer water taxi than we did cause we paid $5/pp for the all day pass. We ate at Mangos, on stop 12, which was very nice. It was very reasonably priced and the food and service was great. We also ate at the Bahia Cabana which is on stop 8. It was ok, not quite the service that we had at Mangos. There is live music at Bahia Cabana in the evenings. nosnobunny Posted April 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Be nice Tony. I'm old with a very bad memory. Nice to hear from you again. Too bad we weren't on the same "bus". We had a ball. Rare finoky Posted April 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2004 How are you and Art doing Beth ? You know we could have been on the same bus and not known it eh. We had yet to meet each other! We are already planning our next cruise. Up next for us is the Miracle going on the western route out of Tampa. That was the first CC meeting I had attended and I am glad I did. I got to meet some wonderful people like yourselves. Do you still stay in touch with Gary and Jackie? TNT1981 Posted June 7, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted June 7, 2004 We ate ate at Carlos and Peppe's and it was awful, Outback food was good but it was still packed at 9:00 at night and we had to wait for 15 minutes, Del Rio and it was ok but the service was very good. We rented a car from the hotel and drove to Sawgrass Mills. This place it hugh. We didn't buy anything but then again we weren't looking for anything and were more or less on a browsing mission. We also took the water taxi. it was a very nice ride, we saw some amazing houses but the boat we were on got something stuck in it and we had to disembark for 15 minutes then were told to get back on and go to stop 18, the problem is that boat went right back where we came from and didn't service stop 18 which is Las Olas. My husband had had it and said we were done. The captain was not informative and the person at the inforation window barely spoke english. our friends went the next day and had a totally differnet experience, their captain basically gave them a tour. Guess it just depends on which captain you get? other than that we just swam at the hotel.
dolphincruiser404 Posted June 7, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Try Beach Place, Las Olas Blvd, or Riverwalk (or is it Riverside?). Anyway, Las Olas and River-walk or side are in the same area. There are great bars, food, and shops!
hstrybuf Posted June 7, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Try the 15th Street Fisheries. It's also on the water taxi stop. In between the restaurant and the next pier there is a school of huge tarpon that wait for the chef to bring them food in the evening. The pelicans also follow him down the pier like children following the Pied Piper looking for a treat. Try to do the water taxi during daylight hours. The homes and boats along the way are amazing!
