There's the waterpark just outside the cruise port.

Inside the port there's a dolphin swim, pool etc.

Along the beach in Mahahual, Tequila Beach has some water activities. At Blue Kay you can snorkel and possibly see some marine life.  All other beach clubs are just beach clubs.

 

Not sure about the metal detector use.  But very doubtful there's anything of interest, assuming you can wind your way through the crowds.  It's one long beach. All the beach clubs run together
