Dinner with Captain

I would assume that families with younger kids (mine are 7 and 9) are never invited to dine with the captain...would that be a correct assumption? Has anyone ever heard or experienced that?
I always thought Captain Merrill Stubing had his DD Vicki at his table, so might invite other children:D
