DeeDee Groff Posted September 14, 2020 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2020 I am being optimistic that I will be able to sail from Fort Lauderdale to Venice at the beginning of April. While I have done TA crossings, they have been east to west and in the fall. Would welcome suggestions on what to bring for when I venture outside on the open deck. What has been your experience at this time of year, and what did you wear that kept you comfortable?
shipgeeks Posted September 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2020 We have done three April transatlantics. I tend to feel the cold more than some, but I have needed a fleece and/or wind jacket almost every day when on the open decks. Even doing aerobics on pool deck (semi-sheltered), I can see us all in three layers at the start of class: tank top, long-sleeve shirt, fleece. Layers came off as the workout progressed, but all were needed at the start. I sometimes needed those layers ashore once we got to the Med ports, too, so I did get good mileage out of them.
shipgeeks Posted September 14, 2020 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2020 I should mention that it's not the temperature so much as the wind, that makes me feel the chill. The ship is usually sailing faster than in the Caribbean, and there are no islands to break the flow.
