Maybe a silly taxi question...

but can anyone tell me how much is the norm to tip taxi drivers? We will be using one in Tampa and also in Cozumel.

I would think it would depend on how far you go.But, most of the time the taxi will charge you a flat fee per person.

In Tampa we will be going from the airport to our hotel downtown, Radisson Riverwalk (from what I gather about a 20 minute ride?). While is Cozumel we will be going from the pier to the Chankanaab beach. Thanks.

Don't know about the tip, but at Chankanaab, if you're planning on snorkeling, ask for Mario. He will take you to some great spots and only works for tips. Have a great trip.

On Cozumel cab fares are based on point to pont not per person. I'm not sure what the cost is to Chankanaab but it use to be about $10. That is total for everyone riding. If it were just 2 of us riding I would tip $1, if it was 4 riding I would tip $2. When taking a cab on Cozumel it is suggested that you settle on the fare before riding. I'm sure most cabbies are above board but a few people have posted that they were taken advantage of. I have never had any problem with the islands cabies myself.

I'm a good tipper...normally. BUT not for a taxi ride in Cozumel. The guy gets his $10 to take me (alone) to Chankanaab - or downtown San Miguel - and I do not tip.
