sagavista Posted June 5, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2022 Looking for suggestions for private tours out of Rotterdam. Have visited Amsterdam several times and will be staying in Rotterdam for this trip. I'm having trouble finding options. Would love your opinions and recommendations. Thanks,
MAVIP Posted June 5, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2022 On the website of Tourist Information Rotterdam https://en.rotterdam.info/visitors-info/ , you will find this page: https://en.rotterdam.info/locations/de-rotterdam-tours-en/ and lots of interesting information If you have further questions please ask Tourist information as in a few days I will be on holiday till the end of the month. If you would like to make a trip by Tuk Tuk, as mentioned on the Tours page (see link above), one of the drivers worked in his former life at the Architecture Division of the Town of Rotterdam. As a retired public servant, it pleases him to drive in and show tourists the town he knows so well. O, and if you would like to visit the Windmills of Kinderdijk (Unesco location) go there with the Waterbus (cheap and fast) and maybe visit the town of Dordrecht (oldest town of Holland) that same day. And if you love musea and art and architecture: buy a ticket or just look at the outside of https://en.rotterdam.info/locations/depot-boijmans-van-beuningen-en/ And maybe you would like to reserve a room on the ss Rotterdam (number 6 ofthat name of Holland america Line) serving as a hotel nowadays, and a nice one too. Enjoy your stay.
rsverdier Posted June 5, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2022 Next to the indeed very interesting option MAVIP mentioned, it’s also possible to do day trips to smaller historical cities in the vicinity of Rotterdam, like Delft (of the famous Delft Blue pottery, but interesting as a city as well) , Gouda (known for its cheese), Leiden (where the pilgrim fathers lived before they boarded the Plymouth for the New World. There is a Pilgrim Fathers museum, but Leiden is also home to a very interesting History Museum with a large Egyptian section) or Brielle. A day trip to The Hague is also a possibility. Visit the city center with its royal palaces, the Houses of Parliament, the Peace Palace or Panorama Mesdag, a painting made by the 19th century painter Mesdag that makes it look like you are on a hilltop overlooking the North Sea in the late 19th century.

Very interesting and nice options from @rsverdier too. I would like to add: if you are interested in the Pilgrim Fathers history you will find in an old - not bombarded - part of Rotterdam the old harbour of Delfshaven with the Pilgrim Fathers Church. The PF left the Netherlands from Rotterdam Delfshaven July 21st 1620 on the Speedwell. In Southampton they boarded the Mayflower to cross the Atlantic Ocean. They were the settlers of Plymouth Mass.
