Madrid Connection Times

We have never flown through MAD before, but it looks like a mess to me…we will be arriving from Vigo, Spain (Air Europa) at Terminal 2, connecting to a Delta flight that departs from Terminal 1. The connection time is 70 minutes. In a lot of airports that wouldn’t be an issue but it looks like we will have to leave and then reclear security and maybe passport control. 
Any advice welcome.
