CountessP Posted August 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2022 Livorno port of call for 12 hours. Would it be wise to just wait until we get there and negotiate a private driver? I am guessing there are cars there available to tourists getting off the ship. Just thinking out loud! That's been the case in the past for us, but it's been years, and it wasn't Italy. Thanks! CruiserBruce Posted August 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2022 There will be taxis. Otherwise, it is not common in Europe for tour vendors to be at the dock seeking customers.
Rare Hlitner Posted August 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2022 As cruise says, it is not the norm in Europe for cars to just be waiting around at ports. In Livorno there will be some taxis and they can often be hired for the day (or a partial day) but this is first-come first serve and everything is negotiable. But if you are planning on hiring a taxi just be forwarned that most drivers speak little English and are not tour guides. You can sometimes get lucky with a driver, but most of the time you are getting a taxi driver....period! Another alternative in Livorno is to rent a car, although this generally must be planned and reserved well in advance. A local rental company, "Sifracar" has been around for years and can generally deliver a reserved rental car right to the pier. For folks that want a private tour in Europe, we strongly suggest that it be arranged in advance! You can also consider using your CC Roll Call board to get together with 1 or more folks to share a private tour. Hank
