Barcelona to Rome B2B

Hi to all of you more experienced cruisers,

My DH and I along with four family/friends are doing a B2B starting in Barcelona on Sep 24th.  The first cruise ends in Rome on Oct 3rd.  We are trying to figure out what to do on the turn-around day.  Are there usually excursions available for B2Bers?  From your experience, what time can B2Bers get off the ship?  We know that we have to clear customs but are not sure of the rest of the process. Any help and advice is most appreciated. Thank you!

We are also b2b in Oct. We’re taking the train to Rome. One or two sights and lunch and back to the ship. Be in-line early to get off the ship. A shuttle will drop you outside the port. 15 to 20 minute walk to train station. Just follow others. It pretty much a straight shot with one dog leg. Again lots of people will be doing this trip. Pick your sights, study train and metro stops and you’ll be fine.

Hello, been to Rome many times. A few things to consider.

What time does the ship arrive in Rome and what time does it sail?

There is no customs clearance as it is part of the EU. What you have to contend with is:

You have a shuttle to take you from the pier to Largo Della Pace. (https://civitavecchia.portmobility.it/en/shuttles)

This is about a 15 minute walk to the train station. But you can get off the shuttle at Fort Michelangelo. Walk out through the gate and it is a 5 minute walk to the train station.

Then you have to take the train into Rome. (www.trenitalia.com). Trains run every 45 minutes or so. And it takes 50 minutes to an hour to get into Rome.

Then you have to think of what you want to see. All the sights are spread out and you will need to plan to get there by subway. (Rome Metro (Metropolitana) - Map, Routes & Stations)

Lastly you have to plan on returning to the ship. Reverse of what you have done in the morning.

You don't want to be a pier runner !!!!

Check for shore excursions booked through the Cruise Line. But they are usually tours that end up at the airport and not back to the ship. Also look at tour companies like Viator. Good luck and have fun.

I can’t read the previous answer because it is too faint,

There should be no customs formalities and you land in Civitavecchia

Here is that post in plain format! It had a lot of great info. Thanks @diverward
