cb2367 Posted August 31, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2022 I was considering the Tulum ruins excursion, but after reading some of the details, it seems like maybe that's not the best thing to consider. All day excursion, round trip ferry and bus, fine print indicates a fee for pictures from all devices, and masking (is that still a requirement on tours?). Is there anything to do for most of the day near the port? Is there perhaps an excursion closer to the port?
ABQrobin Posted September 8, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2022 Tulum is on the Mainland so yes you must ride a ferry to get there. Tulum is a small ruin site and built at the end of the Mayan times so it is of no real significance. It is picturesque but roped off so you can't get close to anything. If you want to see really amazing ruins, do it at another port... Belize in particular has numerous fantastic ruins close enough to visit (1-2 hour bus ride each way, but they are worth it...yes, i have been to them all). c-leg5 Posted September 8, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2022 “Excursion” is a very vague term - what type of activity are you actually interested in? There are plenty of independent activities (eg most of the regular beach clubs) as well as cruise ship escorted tours. Many activities on Cozumel involve water or beaches, since it is an island but there are many other things to do depending on what you are interested in and mobility. There are also three piers on Cozumel depending on your cruise line, so “close” will depend on which pier although there is certainly not a shortage of taxis on Cozumel to take you anywhere you want. cb2367 Posted September 12, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted September 12, 2022 I ended up booking the bar hop tour that I saw mentioned here in the forums. Hopefully that turns out to be enjoyable.
