Calabazar Posted December 30, 2022 #26 Share Posted December 30, 2022 As someone who has suffered with seasickness on almost every cruise I’ve been on, the only medication (over the counter or prescribed by my doctor) that has worked for me is SeaLegs, available from pharmacies in NZ but unfortunately not Australia.

Is someone is concerned they might get sick, maybe it is worth taking some phenergin with them and taking a tablet before going to bed on the first night. It is an anti-histimine and somewhat sedating. I take one Phenergan tablet at night, starting two days before sailing. After 2-3 days I drop it, and find that a chewable Kwells tablet most mornings keeps me from getting queasy. If heading into bad weather I sometimes will take Phenergan again for a couple of nights. After a few cruises you will find what works best for you.

I suffer severe motion sickness (ironic as my father was in the Navy 38 years & had some scary moments on board ships but never got seasick). I on the other hand even get sick in car trips, ferries, and plane - stabilisers on ships still don't help with my motion sickness (same with having a balcony cabin etc.). For the OP if your mother is prone to any type of motion sickness it's best to travel with some type of medication.
