cacruisin Posted January 24, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2023 Is there a place in PV near by off the ship to just go eat, play on the beach and do a bit of shopping? (Similar to when you get off in Cabo and can go to Medano Beach) I have been to PV many times but always did an excursion previously. TIA
Mike45LC Posted January 24, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2023 There is a beach very close to the pier, but it is not much fun -- not much by way of rentals, restaurants, etc. There are a couple of shops. This is Playa De Oro. Very easy walk. (Also, there is a large "flea market" just next to the cruise terminal.) For play, cafes, etc., you should go to Playa De Muertos, in the "Romantic Zone", south of the river. It requires a cab or bus ride each way.

lax19 Posted January 25, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2023 Or grab an Uber (cheaper than a cab). Go to the Hotel Rosita which is at the north end of the Malecon. Stroll down the Malecon and wind up and down the side streets. Plenty of shops, food and a really pretty church. As you head south in the Malecon past the river, you’ll find places to rent chairs and umbrellas.
Mike45LC Posted January 26, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2023 In my mind, LAX understates how far the walk is along the Malecon from Hotel Rosita to Playa Muertes (south of the river). We prefer to take the cab to Playa Muertes (the cab ride is more expensive than to Rosita), and walk north. This way, whenever we get tired, we can grab a cab back to the ship.

That would be about a 7/8 mile walk. In fact, we just (1/2 hour ago) did that walk+. Hank

Hank Hank, that might be the length of the direct route, but it ignores the “wind up and down the side streets.” And a detour to the church. A tourist’s stroll and a local’s exercise walk might be different!!
lax19 Posted January 26, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2023 (edited) True, it’s not a direct shot or a 30 minute walk. We’ve done this both ways (starting at Hotel Rosita or Playa Muertas) up and downthe Malecon and spent probably four hours wondering, shopping, eating. But that was our plan for the day. Two weeks ago we took an Uber to Playa Muertas for 139 pesos. Edited January 26, 2023 by lax19
