nascarcruiser Posted January 28, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2023 This went into effect just as we were about to leave after a 3 week land vacation. Our resort went from designated smoking areas to none overnight https://www.traveloffpath.com/all-resorts-beaches-and-public-spaces-in-mexico-will-be-smoke-free/
blue_water Posted January 29, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2023 Cigarettes can still be sold here but cannot be displayed. Smoking is still taking place in public areas, including beaches, but enforcement has been ramping up. This was the initial info we saw here - Lots of discussion on the local forums of course! “Starting January 15, smoking will be totally prohibited in public places throughout Mexico; business sector will protect themselves against this measure. The Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) published the decree that reforms the Regulations of the Tobacco Control Law, approved in February 2022, which prohibits smoking in public places throughout Mexico. Therefore, starting Sunday, January 15, smoking will be prohibited in OFFICES, RESTAURANTS, HOTELS, PARKS, and BEACHES. It is prohibited to display cigarettes for sale. In addition to the prohibition of the use of cigarettes in public spaces, the Tobacco Control Law established that the advertising and dissemination of tobacco products will be prohibited by any channel. Cigars cannot be displayed in any establishment for sale.”
