Koningsdam forward cabin on 7th or 11th deck?

I’ve been on both the 10th and the 7th deck forward.  My preference is for the 7th although there are light restrictions at night due to proximity to the bridge.  (Drapes closed and no balcony light.)  My preference for deck 7 is due to the smaller balcony width on deck 10.  Also check the deck plan to see whether your room choice has any other deterrents.  If deck 11 was your only option I would take it because Alaska is gorgeous from any deck.  Enjoy your cruise!

Booking an Alaska trip and the balcony options are filling up fast--would we be better off with forward cabins on the 7th or 11th deck?  Anything to look out for?

Due to being lower down, the Deck 7 cabins should experience less lateral motion than the Deck 11 cabins.  Also, the Deck 11 balconies are shallower than the Deck 7 balconies...maybe 12"-18" shallower than the Deck 7 balconies.  If booking Deck 7 forward, try to get back from the bridge more (perhaps the VD category cabins) to avoid the night lighting restrictions noted by Miss G.

A plus to Deck 11 forward is you would be right below the Crow's Nest so that would be very convenient to get a quick drink or great views.  Not sure if that outweighs the shallower balcony though.  A plus to a deeper balcony, especially in areas more prone to rain like Alaska, is you are somewhat more protected from rain by the larger overhang you get with the deeper balcony.

Depends if your cruise is staying in the inside passage or has days on the open sea. The cruise on the inside passage was very calm, described as like glass. We were on the upper deck for our first Alaska sail from Vancouver. But our daughter-in-law went from Fairbanks and the ship was pretty rocky, poor dear! We loved the Koningsdam (x2) deck 7 mid ship was our choice each time. You’ll have a treat, the food was excellent too, at least that was 4 years ago. Enjoy!

We love staying on Deck 11 on the Koningsdam. In addition to being close to the Crows Nest, you are really close to outdoor viewing areas.  Last summer in Alaska, we alternated between balcony and outdoor during glacier viewing days.  It was literally just steps from our cabin to 360 degree views!  We could spend time outdoors and then go back in to warm up.  It was also very nice to pop up to Crows Nest to get hot drinks!

Our favorite rooms on the Koningsdam are the front facing ocean view cabins!  Very spacious and close to the Lido/Crows Nest.  But on an Alaskan cruise, we prefer the deck 11 verandas.
