Rare Interestedcruisefan Posted March 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2023 This might make you guys laugh! I miss my cruise holiday. And coming on here each day reminds me how much. So a couple of days ago I listed all the things I like to do on a cruise as follows: In no particular order: Eat full English breakfast Eat pancakes with nutella and strawberries for breakfast Drink cocktails Walk on the decks Walk the ports looking at the shops Read my book Workout in the gym Eat some carvery food each day (amongst other stuff) Go to art talks Watch a movie Eating in a speciality restaurant Guided excursions Go to theatre shows and entertainment Lie down on the sunbeds A couple of hours work on my laptop And I decided why not do all the above at home: So yesterday I had a mini cruise day in Derbyshire Here was my schedule: Full English Breakfast (small version) One pancake with nutella and strawberries A home workout (I have weights and a bench) A walk from home along the canal - we live 20 mins walk from a lovely Marina Walked round the shops Read a chapter of my holiday book (I've not read since we came home) A couple of hours work at the marina overlooking the water Lemon and ginger tea Walk back home A spin class on YouTube (on my exercise bike at home) Watched an art talk on Lowry on youtube Watched "Bank of Dave" good film Roast Pork Carvery for lunch with stuffing and veg (small portion/no potatoes) Drove to Stratford on Avon (walking tour with headphones -downloaded the tour From voicemail) Dinner In "The Opposition" Restaurant in Stratford on Avon Cocktail Watched Julius Caesar theatre show in Royal Shakespeare Theatre Just like being on holiday!!! Brilliant day (Probably cost me a lot more than my daily cost being on a Caribbean cruise in an inside cabin mind you) Now my challenge is to recreate this every day Watch this space!! We live 1 minutes walk from the canal and 15 mins from the marina. So we are perfect for having a "port day" from home Only thing missing from yesterday's "cruise day" was sunshine! We live on the Derby/Nottingham border so not too far away. We had a canal boat for 5 days last year and only got as far as Willington but it was lovely. Yesterday was a really miserable day weather wise (I never left the house) but it's looking a bit better today. Have a lovely day!

Rare Interestedcruisefan Posted March 29, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) The weirdest thing happened at Royal Shakespeare Theatre We were on upper stalls For the first 25 minutes of the show someone's phone was playing a music album Song after song. Everybody is looking at everybody trying to figure out whos phone it is. Assuming they will do something about it. Thinking what idiot would let their phone do that Meanwhile down below the play just continues. But the cast must have been hearing it as well The ushers are there. The sound engineers are there wondering if someone's phone has accidentally connected to the theatres speakers by Bluetooth or something Everyone's looking at each other. But nobody can figure it out. Eventually someone realised a lady who was hard of hearing had been given headphones from the theatre and a special audio loop to listen to the actors on So just she's sat there happily watching and listening nicely to the play with the specially provided theatre headphones on totally oblivious to the fact her phone in her handbag was playing a music album that ruined the start of the show for everybody else around her You couldn't make it up!!! I bet that's never happened in Headliners Theatre!! Lol Edited March 29, 2023 by Interestedcruisefan 2

jocap Posted March 30, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2023 I once did something similar when I had some free days and OH was working. We lived in West Yorks, and I knew most of the towns around, mainly for shopping/meals out/theatres etc Instead, I took a bus or train from the local station, to well-known towns such as Pontefract, but as a visitor. I'd not been to the castle or old church in Ponte since I was a child; I'd not walked up the Headrow in Leeds and visited the Art gallery etc... I even took a train to Manchester airport and went on the viewing roof. Plenty of coffee breaks and different lunches out, and no shopping for basics- just the odd souvenir! 😄 And I didn't have to be back on board by 4.30pm!
