Evening attire of Queen Elizabeth

Ok...

I'm probably over thinking the attire for the evening onboard the Queen Elizabeth. Smart attire is requested after 6pm so crazy as this may sound but do we need smart attire in the buffet area and also the casino? We usually cruise the mass market ships and casual is good for the evenings.

Thanks for the replies...

The "What to pack" page on the main Cunard website isn't all that helpful about the casual venues when all it has to say is "you’ll find many areas on board where casual dress is welcome."

You can find the list of casual venues within My Cunard under "Before you sail", "Important to know", and "Packing for your holiday". Here is what it has to say there about the casual venues.

"Of course, if you prefer to spend your evenings in more relaxed attire, feel free to dress casually as you visit any of the following venues: Kings Court or Lido Buffet, Golden Lion, Casino, Carinthia Lounge, Winter Garden/Winter Lounge, and G32 or Yacht Club. Non-ripped jeans are appropriate, but please refrain from wearing shorts, sports attire, swimwear or sleeveless T-shirts outside of the gym, spa and deck spaces."

Not all those venues exist on Queen Elizabeth. For Queen Elizabeth, the list of casual venues is Lido Buffet, Golden Lion, Casino, Garden Lounge, and Yacht Club.

Cunard is very special at night with the dress code. It is part of their tradition and part of what makes them unique. It is different from other more casual lines.

Whereas other lines have dress codes that are merely suggestions, Cunard is more of a traditional line and has a true dress code.

I would not want to limit my Cunard experience at night- it is great.

So my suggestion is not to stress about it, but just embrace and enjoy Cunard for all of its beauty after 6pm.

If you are OK with the Lido then anything reasonable, not shorts, would probably be fine and you will not be made uncomfortable by anyone around you - it's fairly casual dining in any event.

The dress code - particularly Smart Attire - really should not scare anyone off, and I would advocate you plan one night in the main restaurant for your stateroom, just to see what it's like.

If it turns out to not really be you then at least you know, but it's the sort of thing that makes Cunard different from the mass market cruise lines. I would say the same for the Gala night(s) but I accept the jump is quite high there, while Smart Attire can be chinos and a nice shirt. The way it works for some is to dress up around 6pm, go to say the Commodore Club for a relaxing drink (ok, space permitting!) and then off to the meal, or vice versa, then off to the show or to see some music / dancing. It should just click in for you, and you may come away thinking it's the way to have a memorable evening, in a way that bouncing around in jeans won't work.  But bottom line is: do it to enjoy it.

Thanks we plan to dress to the nines for the formal evenings. We aren't jeans people so what we usually wear to dinner will work just fine. Looking forward to this adventure and the beauty of Alaska....

Thanks again
