Local bus in Alesund

Aurora calls at Alesund next Friday and I intend to visit the Atlantic Sea Park Aquarium. Already have the aquarium ticket and intend to use the local bus. Three questions.

> Has anyone used the bus recently and what is the procedure for paying aboard.  I understand it is contactless or via PIN?

> Is the ticket one way or return and how is it validated on the return journey?

> It appears the No1 bus towards the aquarium does not leave from the bus station but from across the road but does call at the bus station on the return journey

Thanks, that is what I will do. It is only half a mile from the cruise berth.

Hi,

We were in Alesund last month  (on Queen Victoria). We got the No 1 bus to walk up Sugar Top mountain (which is just a few stops past the aquarium).

You can pay on the bus with either cash or card ( we paid with cash). A single ticket is 41 NOK but you are charged an extra 20NOK surcharge if you pay on the bus. If you want to avoid this surcharge you can download the FRAM app and purchase your ticket that way. The single ticket is valid for the return journey if you are within 90 minutes of purchasing your ticket (when you buy a ticket it has the time on it).

You are right that the No 1 bus doesn't leave from the bus station - this is where is returns to on the way back. To get the bus towards the aquarium walk approx 5mins to the bus stop on Apotekertorget  (find it on Google maps). Take the number 1 bus in the direction of 'Saevollen'. On the way back get the number 1 bus in the direction 'Moa' and get off at the bus station right in front of the cruise ship dock.

It really is very easy and you won't have any problems. Drivers were friendly and helpful.

This is the website for the local buses with lots more info: www.en.frammr.no
