Flight booked through NCL but thinking about doing return booking on my own

Good morning. NC L has booked my outgoing and inbound flights. My outbound has only one transfer which is fine. My return flight however has two transfers; both with really short times. I am thinking about just using my outbound ticket and booking my return on my own. There are better options than what they have booked. Of course it will be more money but it might be worth it so I don’t arrive home at 12:30 AM. Anyone ever done this?  Any thoughts?  Thanks

Would you be booking the same airline?  That could be an issue.  If not, there would not be an issue if you just no-showed for your NCL return flight.  Sometimes people have been successful working with the airline to modify their flights and pay the difference…others, not so much.
