kayehall Posted July 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2023 OK, so I really wanted to stay at the Westin Bayshore. However was not to be and I have ended up with Marriott Pinnacle. Not worried about the hotel as Marriott's are wonderful. How is the area? Will it be walkable, with luggage, to Canada Place. Without listening to my husband complaining!!!! dawnvip Posted July 13, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2023 It is walkable, and probably easier if you head north towards the water and then along Waterfront to the port. There are large sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and it is a safe area. A wine fest is held every year in the convention centre (Canada Place), and my DH has had to carry a case of wine back to the Pinnacle on more than one occasion so luggage should be fine! 🍷
Rare Milhouse Posted July 13, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 13, 2023 The immediate area is safe, if somewhat quiet IMO. Very walkable to Canada Place per @dawnvip route. While there are a few options to eat within a few blocks, it's kind of a businessy district. You'll need to walk a couple of blocks to be in a more lively area. ie It's a good launching point to the waterfront and the seawall which provides a nice path between Canada Place and Stanley Park. A few blocks in the other direction will eventually get you to Robson street which a main pedestrian retail/food area.
SCX22 Posted July 13, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 13, 2023 That area is too business for my liking. It gets really quiet in the evenings and the walk back to the hotel is eerie, but not unsafe, because it's pretty deserted. The downtown retail area is nearby
DaveOKC Posted July 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Downhill to pier makes it an easy walk IMO.
kayehall Posted July 14, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Thanks everyone. What hotel would you suggest in a more touristy location? It has to be a Marriott property and near Canada Place. Just wondering. (After a long flight and depending on arrival time, we might be just as comfortable having a cocktail and meal right at the hotel and hitting the sack)
dawnvip Posted July 14, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2023 The Metropolitan Hotel on Howe Street is an excellent hotel and they also have an excellent restaurant (Diva at the Met). It is abou the same distance to the port, a bit further if you want to walk along the waterfront, but closer to shopping.
Rare Milhouse Posted July 14, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2023 I don't want to discourage the Marriott Pinnacle. When you step out from the hotel, you're just not in the thick of things which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But you're just a reasonable couple of blocks walk away from touristy stuff. +1 to the Metropolitan Hotel as a possible alternative Marriott property. But it's kind of six of one, half dozen of the other. It gets you closer to Robson street but further from the waterfront. The underground mall (Pacific Centre is across the street.) and the art gallery's square which occasionally has events is nearby. However, I don't find that part of Howe Street very lively during the day or evening. It's mainly people walking to some other destination apart from maybe the restaurant and lounge at hotel down the street.
SCX22 Posted July 15, 2023 #9 Share Posted July 15, 2023 There's a trade off in the location of the Pinnacle. While you'll be further away from the downtown shopping area, you'll be closer to the Canada Place the next day. If all you're going to do is eat and sleep for a few hours and walk to the Canada Place the next day, the Pinnacle will be great for that purpose. The only other Marriott property that is close to the Canada Place is the Delta Suites. Nice hotel and close to the Canada Place, but you're getting closer to the seedy part of town. The location is near the Waterfront Station as well which makes it convenient if you plan on taking the Canada Line to your hotel. 1

The Metropolitan is also a Marriott hotel (as indicated earlier in the thread). I forgot about the Delta Suites - it is a nice hotel as well, also within walking distance of the port but no more "happening" than where the Met is, IMO
Rare Milhouse Posted July 15, 2023 #11 Share Posted July 15, 2023 Would concur that the Delta is closer to a few sketchier blocks in downtown and not a lot more in the immediate area for a tourist. Sure, close to waterfront station and closer to Gastown. Not worth the tradeoff if all things being equal IMO but would not discount staying in this location if wanted. kayehall Posted July 16, 2023 Author #12 Share Posted July 16, 2023 Thanks everyone. Think we will stick to the Marriott Pinnacle. Both the Met and the Pinnacle seem pretty comparable. I tend to over think everything!!!!
psuboater Posted July 18, 2023 #13 Share Posted July 18, 2023 Stayed at the Marriott Pinnacle in April and found it wasn't too far from most things we wanted. As long as you're comfortable walking a few blocks, it's a nice place to stay. We thought the bar was fantastic!
Sea-n-Ease Posted April 21 #14 Share Posted April 21 (edited) What’s the walk like (around 10:00 pm) from the SkyTrain to the Metropolitan? Safety and distance. What’s the walk like (with large rolling luggage) from the Metropolitan to Canada Place (daytime). Edited April 21 by Sea-n-Ease

Safe as houses compared to any US large town let alone city; very short; not much longer and downhill; and if you check this map you can virtually walk the entire route by Streetview to see exactly how ludicrously easy it is (very close to a straight line, Howe is the only street you'll need to walk more than part of a block on!)
