Cabin Guarantee

We have a guaranteed cabin for a QM2 December sailing. Does anyone know how long before sailing guaranteed cabins are assigned?

It can be anything from the day of booking to the day of boarding - but I would normally expect to be informed no later than seven days pre embarkation.

I made a guarantee booking in early Oct for a Nov sailing. I got the confirmation email and had already been assigned a cabin. I called Cunard and changed the cabin to one with a better location in the same category.

did you book through a TA or direct through Cunard to be able to do this?

We booked through a TA, we got our confirmation at 8am on the morning of departure! Not good for the nerves!

I booked directly with Cunard as the offer popped up on a Saturday and my TA doesn't work weekends. I'm glad I did as the offer had disappeared by Monday morning! Usually I use a TA.

My experience - with direct bookings is about 2 to 3 weeks out, on the whole, if the vessel is either empty or full. In between gets trickier since they are in the market to see more cabins and thus hold on for longer before tying themselves down. So while day of departure can certainly happen. Note that if you check-in online at the first opportunity, the room number may not be shown, it's the luggage tags which seem to have a live connection. And that can change up to the day of departure, usually in the upgrade direction.
