I've searched everywhere I can think of but can't find the info I need so thought I would try here. We are going to New Plymouth next year on a world cruise and would like to just walk the town rather than take an excursion.  I'm trying to find out how far town is from the port and if there is any sort of transportation if it's more than a mile from the port.   Thank you for any info

It is around three kilometres to the town centre from the port. I would think it likely that there would be shuttles from the ship into the port. Perhaps ask your cruise line or email one of the contacts in the link below.

In case anyone is interested - there is a shuttle from the Port to the city center.  Didn't ask if there was a charge because it doesn't matter to us - we just want to get there.  Thank you so much possum52 - I did email one of the people in the link you sent.

The Len Lye art gallery is interesting.  Waterfront is a nice walk,  Pukekura park worth a visit can walk from city centre
