And another few minutes to make up the bed and empty the trash so maybe you’ll suggest guests should do that too.

If they choose evening service they’re not making the bed, just folding it up in the morning. It’s once a day service, not none a day service.

We will be sailing in an ocean view balcony on the Odyssey with our 5 year old in December. We normally sail in a JS or above for the extra space since our son started to join us, but we booked last minute and it seems the ship is sold out.

It will be interesting to see how things work out and this thread definitely brings up some good points. We normally tip the stateroom attendant to start the cruise if we need anything out of the ordinary. This is in addition to the standard gratuities and tends to uplevel the service throughout. I wonder if this type of tipping strategy is still valued or if they just pass completely on the opportunity in which case I guess we fold and/or open it ourselves.

We'll use the sofa bed for our cruise next year.  Haven't decided if we're doing morning or evening service.  Here's our plan...

* Ask the steward to come back an extra time to put up/take down the sofa bed.

* If he/she can't/won't, then (gasp!) we'll do it ourselves.

We've stayed in plenty of hotels with sofa beds and NEVER expected/asked a hotel employee to set up/put it away.  We've even put sheets on it.

The problem is pullman beds require a special tool to be put away and taken down. I agree, a sofa bed is not the end of the world to put away. But a pullman (or 2) taking up space in a cabin all week is no fun. Granted to avoid this is the future, we are booking 2 cabins for our family of 4 instead of . Kids are getting kind of big to have the 4 of us in one room regardless.
