Leixoes and Porto

Hi, we are very much looking forward to our 2nd SAGA cruise (on SOD again) 28th April to Western Atlantic. Our first port is Leixoes and does anyone have experience of SAGA visiting there and providing a shuttle service to Porto which is a considerable distance away please? It is one hour by public transport but 15 mins by coach. We have been to Porto previously and don’t wish to use the excursions offered. The hop on hop off bus in Porto is good and booked in the city.
To anyone dithering about using SAGA I can only say “get booking”. We have cruised with Thomson in early days (now Marello) , extensively on P&O and Cunard incl transatlantic and rate SAGA the best for us.  We are late seventies, reasonably fit and active and there are plenty of things to do on board. Our experience of some passengers, as described by earlier correspondents on this site which I thought offensive, as “very old and immobile and thus like a care home”, is that the vast majority make delightful and very entertaining companions aboard ship similarly as the younger set. Cunard has lots of stuffy people aboard who didn’t wish to converse just complain. Mind you last year we had one lady on SOD one evening who was extremely overweight, got through double starters, salad, soup, main course and 2 sweets and complained loudly that the food wasn’t as plentiful or as good  as Marello or Ambassador. Perhaps not enough chips. No answer to that.  We eagerly await news of 2025 cruises. Hope someone can answer my query re Leixoes .

We got the free shuttle to Porto when we docked at Leixoes on Spirit of Adventure.  There were road works and it took about 25 minutes.

We also rate Saga very highly, and are waiting for the summer 2025 itineraries, which we hope be be available to book soon!

Just got a response from Saga, in case anyone else wishes to know, on the April 28th April SOD sailing they are providing a shuttle service at all the ports except St Malo (not necessary). That’s good service from them.

Sorry misread, Vigo also no shuttle but from memory ship docks convenient to town.

In Vigo cruise ships tie up at the cruise terminal, right in the centre of town and close to the seafood bars - oysters a speciality.
