Live From Celebrity Constellation 3/11-3/23

Recommended Posts

I enjoyed the beef. Very flavorful and the crust was not too soggy like I find a lot of times. The sides, however, were unremarkable. Small portion but I will go for extra dessert to make up for it 😆

Dessert menu.

Upon further talks with my wise Uncle Google, I have learned clotted cream is not leagle in the US. So at least sailing from a US port whipped cream it is I guess.

Funny the things the FDA allows in our foods but clotted cream is a no no.

Perhaps clotted cream is just not legal to import?  My girlfriends and I frequently visit a tea room in NY and there is no shortage of clotted cream.  It is more of a thing that is made fresh so I doubt anyone would want to import the stuff sold in jars anyway.

From what I've read, because it is made with unpasteurized milk, it is not approved by the FDA. In some states it is allowed based on state law but never across state lines. I do recall seeing New York on the list of states with laws permitting it.

I just wish the FDA would stop messing with imported wine.  You can love a wine you drank in Europe, come home and buy it (identical label) and it will sub par.  I asked several knowlegable sellers what was going on and they told me that it's the FDA import regulations.  Why can they not understand that wine is alcoholic, does not carry bacteria and, therefore, it is not necessary to mandate adding preservatives to it?  Cups of wine have been passed from person to person around church congregations for centuries for goodness sake.  Much the same story with why beer is so much better in Europe.

It does seem to be something you would only want freshly made.  That would be common sense.  You wouldn't put real whipped cream in a jar and ship it overseas either for obvious reasons.

Even the junk food tasted better in Europe I found.

The interstate rules apply because the FDA has no jurisdiction over food that does not cross a state line. It's not because of something staying fresh in transit.

Sometimes they have pre recorded music playing in the foyer, figured that would work in a pinch.

It was classical piano music.

My goodness.

Going to sit in Rendezvous for now, there is a duo playing at 10, I'm not sure they will be playing anything I care for but it is my only choice.

This is definitely a classical cruise crowd. When the shows are on, nothing else is scheduled.

What was your opinion on the poached pear?

Sorry I forgot all about dessert in my angst to find something going on.

I don't think I've had the Pear before and was not sure I would care for it. It was lovely with a nice cinnamon flavor throughout. The ice cream on top was a perfect addition and I enjoyed it a lot.

The baked Alaska was the best I've had in many many cruises. Very nice torched meringue flavor with a generous portion of cake and ice cream. I usually order two because all lines seem to be in competition to serve the thinnest slice of cake possible but this was a hefty portion, something I rarely say about Celebrity.

Thanks. I think I am definitely going to add that poached pear into my "must try" list for my upcoming cruise.

You've inspired me with this thread that I may try to do a LIVE in a couple weeks when we are on Ascent. I usually take pictures of my food anyway, and there seems to be enough people here who love hearing about the food as much as I do so I might as well share!

Other than her pie, which was a special request that Roldan was able to accommodate, my mom did not care for her dinner and did not eat most of it. I tried her risotto and it was not good, even though I enjoyed portion. She does not want to go back tomorrow unless she loves the menu.

As it would turn out, I even see an appetizer that I woild like to try tomorrow so I will be dining alone if she does the buffet 😆

My dinner was good, but nothing I ate was as good as it has been on other Celebrity ships, except the baked Alaska.

The wait time was not worth it. People go crazy over lobster and it just overwhelmes the dining room on this night. The buffet was not a good alternative when I walked through, very poor looking choices.

Tomorrow is Ireland night, which may be good if they duplicate the St. Patrick's buffet but I will still be doing the dining room.

I don't always follow the Celebrity board so I would love if you post a link here for me to find it! I love food heavy reviews 😋

I have not done edge class yet, I think I would love all the extra food choices.

And maybe they would not be shut down by 9pm most nights.

You would love the food choices on the Edge-class ships... even the buffet has lots of options.  The four dining rooms all have their own special items (which you can request at any of the four main dining rooms) so it expands the menu options by a bit, too!

And usually there is a good mix of entertainment in the evenings.

Someone told me on my last Celebrity review they have piano bar on Ascent. My absolute favorite and I always miss that on Celebrity.

The four mdr concept really excites me. I'm not sure if I have any Celebrity cruises in my future as I sail on casino deals (and have stopped gambling) but the Edge class looks like something I would love to try.

Singer was very good. Enjoyed the music selection. Only problem was it was a quiet cocktail lounge vibe and I had trouble hearing over any other noise. Even when they talked between songs, they whispered and were impossible to hear.

I don't think there is an actual dedicated piano bar, but the current sailings have had a piano bar singer performing several nights in Eden.  I am hoping he is still there in a few weeks because I love piano bars.

Might be worth your while to donate a few bucks to the casino to see if you get some more free offers.

Casino is hopping. Celebrity filling their ships with gamblers like me 😆

Here for the show which got many warnings of not for the easily offended and adults only. I'm skeptical how raunchy it will be.

Maybe I will see a vertically incorrect pineapple 🤔.

Full crowd. Between here and casino, maybe the whole ship is still awake.

No budget to spread around and when it comes to variety of ships, entertainment and overall ship experience, Royal has won.
