Haines excursions

Going to be in Haines early August and looking at excursions available.   A "wildlife canoe safari" on Chilkoot Lake sounds like it may be good.  Has anyone been on this or similar tour?  Your thoughts/ comments, etc.??  Or what did YOU like in Haines?   Comments, suggestions welcome!

Ditto this. You will be there at an optimal time to see brown bears feeding on salmon. Lots of eagles too. It was one of our favorite excursions in Haines.

We had held back from booking a flightseeing trip anywhere ahead of time in case of poor weather, but when we docked in Haines the weather was perfect  and we went directly to a local flying company and booked a flightseeing trip. We chose one that flew over Glacier Bay and had a wonderful flight

Thank you Wolfie and karatemom..... this sounds good.  Is it a bus, van, some type of watercraft?  Who is the tour operator?

First time in Haines and looking forward to it...

Thanks edinburgher.  Wow, I'll bet that was spectacular!  Several years ago we did one in Ketchikan, over Misty Fjords....same deal....got off the ship and the weather was perfect and we were able to book it right then.

Instead of stressing about possible weather on the day, a last minute booking is actually a bonus although one has to accept it may not happen at all.

We were too early in the year for bears and/or salmon so it was the perfect opportunity for us although we did see a huge number of eagles.

Thank you Wolfie.  Unfortunately they are not offering that tour on the day we will be there. 😞

This one also does not offer the tour on the day we will be in port.  😞

it may be that your cruiseline has booked all slots that day for their excusive shorex as that is quite common in smaller places where there are fewer operators.  You could check your shorex to see if these tours are being offered, and if so, that would explain why neither company can take individual bookings..
