double port charges too?

Recommended Posts

When trying to book a casino cruise using the new layout with the new fees included pricing as a solo, I appear to be charged for double taxes and port charges. I can't seem to find the taxes and port charges listed separately. I saw a thread previously that mentioned if you call directly to book this does not happen but couldn't find the thread again. Any update on this issue? I am offered a free cruise but seem to be paying quite alot now whereas before I only paid the $200 deposit which was returned as OBC.

Go into the detail see what it shows. I did a mock booking but it is only charging for 1

Now go try the same cruise again for two people and you will see the required fees and expenses is half amount as the solo sailing person. The required fees and expenses should be $95.37 per person when two sail instead of one.

The op said taxes. Taxes are not double. Cruise fee is, which isn't "cruise fare" double?? That's always been my understanding. But I'll just get out of this topic as I've never booked solo.... sorry

The required fees and expenses is a new breakdown, before it was just port fees and taxes as one charge. This new category is now subject to penalty so it is essentially a part of the cruise fare. Depending on the cruise, solos are paying a bit more or all the way to a lot more on a one way Panama canal cruise. The difference that people are noticing in the pricing for solo is that they are paying double under the new category. Sister line Princess is not doing the double charge and some have said Carnival was going to fix this situation, but it has been now 44 days since the double charging has started. So I am guessing this is just the way it is now with Carnival.

I was one of the persons who posted on the other thread. I waited until I came back from a couple of cruises and I tried again. This time I called Carnival and the problem has not been fixed. The rep. told me that that is the way it is now. I told her that if that is the situation, then I will cruise on other cruise lines that only charge me port fees & taxes once. I think that solos should communicate this to Carnival in any form: calling, writing or in person when you are onboard which I plan to do when I am on Panorama in 8 days.  I still have 4 more cruises with Carnival. That’s the time I will give them to fix this.

Ironically people have shown that Princess is not doing this. Carnival made a business decision and now you get to make a business decision.

You are right. Thanks for the information about Princess. I will give Carnival time to fix this until my last cruise in February.
