cruise'n Posted April 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2006 Does anyone happen to know the approx. cost of a taxi from Heathrow to the Liverpool St. train station? How long of a trip is this? Thanks for your help.
Single Cruiser Posted April 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2006 You best get quotes beforehand from various airport cab companies as the fares can vary. Liverpool Street is NE central London, so effectively you have to drive either through London or around the orbital motorway. Timing, I'd guess nearly an hour even though it's only 20 miles! Prices, with luggage? 4 people, 4 suitcases around £50 ~ $80. Try: http://www.londonshuttleservice.com/
Globaliser Posted April 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2006 I think you'd be lucky to get to Liverpool Street in an hour; it would have to be a seriously off-peak time for this. I would allow more like 90 minutes for the trip.
Single Cruiser Posted April 29, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2006 Oh yes that would be avoiding peak hours, times have improved a bit through the congestion charging zone. Just need to get down the A4 into it! Strangely multimap says 50 mins. But in peak time 1 - 1.5 hrs!
cruise'n Posted April 30, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted April 30, 2006 Thanks Single Cruiser and Globaliser for your help. I have heard something about a possible train strike. Do you happen to know if the problems have been solved?
Single Cruiser Posted April 30, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 30, 2006 I've not heard of any strike, the Underground staff often go on strike but it's very rare for the mainline services..
Globaliser Posted April 30, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2006 I have heard something about a possible train strike. Do you happen to know if the problems have been solved?Yes' date=' there is talk of a strike; and no, the problems have not yet been solved, AFAIK. There was a negotiating deadline last Friday (28 April), on which the BBC reported. I haven't found any further updates. But this is early days yet, as underlined by how little news there is about this issue over here. Before any strike, there must be a compulsory strike ballot, which takes weeks (by law, the ballot must be by secret postal voting), then the union leadership must decide whether to call a strike, and then notice has to be given of any strike date(s). And on top of all of that, I would be very surprised if any action was more than a periodic one-day strike.
