Has anyone out their been on the HAL Veendam lately? What kind of weather are we looking at in May 2006? Has anyone taken the transportation from the airport to Seward Alaska how was that?

Thanks for all you help!

May is supposed to be the driest month in Alaska of all the warmer months the cruise lines go there. We went in May and had wonderful weather. Never needed our heavy coats, but layers is the way to go. Take a hat, gloves, and ear protection, and waterproof parka or rain gear of some sort just to be safe. We purchased waterproof plastic rain suits at Home Depot or Lowe's for about $5pp, and never used them. It rained/drizzled one day in Seward.

So far as going to Seward, the most scenic way is to take the Alaska RR - it will require you to have transport from the airport to the rail station downtown. Our train left early, like 6:30 am, one morning. The trains have large windows, a guide pointing out everything of interest and giving history of the area, and a dining car with good food. It was about the same price as a cruise line transfer as I recall. The site is www. AKRR.com (I think) - if that isn't right, google Alaska RR and you'll get it.

Also check out the Alaska board under Ports of Call, it is very active with good info.

Have a great cruise!!
