How much spending £ do you recommend for 1 weeks cruise?

Recommended Posts

First time cruiser looking for a bit of advice from all you experienced cruisers.

How much spending money approx do you think we will need for a weeks cruise round the med? We are no penny pinchers, like a drink or 5 :p and would certainly want to do some excursions during the trip ...

Answers on an electronic postcard please!!

p.s, for the record, we were advised by the travel agent not to prepay tips, so still have those to add on.

Check the following link on the Royal Caribbean website to get all the information you need on shore excursions. You can get a description of the excursions that are available as well as the prices.

Drinks will average about $6 per drink and tips will average about $10 per person per day.

Elaine-If your excursions will be paid for, then figure about $125-150 for tips,$50-75 a day for drinks (for 2)-that's $350-450+ for drinks, then you must figure on how much for gifts,or things you may purchase for yourselves,GAMBLING....I almost always figure about $750 on the low end to $1200 on the high end for everything.I,too,am not a penny pincher, and we do anything we want when we cruise (within reason-I'm not Richard Branson!)...my father used to say,"save, save when you work..so you can spend spend when you play"......always figure high,so if you spend less,it's kind of a savings!!In '96,my wife & I went on RCL's Majesty and spent $1000 just on drinks, casino $$$,and Carlos & Charlie's in Cozumel....but what a time we had!!!!

Thanks for your replies ... They're really helpful. I figured around £1000

mark, which was me slightly over estimating - but hey, I'm on holiday! I want to enjoy myself !!!

Cannot wait to try the treatments at the spa ....:o

You are absolutley correct....You are enjoying yourself. For typical service follow the RCI guideline. Just carry a few extra Euros for the exceptional service. You will recognize exceptional service. We did on our first cruise. Watch the service around you and listen to your table mates. It becomes obvious after a while. Enjoy... we always do....

i would agree with you elaine £500 is more than enough when excursions are pre booked (unless you are planning being extravagent or going daft). i am assuming elaine you are from the UK. there is one or two differences i have found with booking cruises here in Scotland (where i am from) compared to others mainly with gratuities, big al is mentioning $150-200 on tips. Travel Agents here normally offer to have that pre paid and included in the price of the holiday, where others pay onboard, and Big AL you mention taking a minimum of $750 well that is about £420 at todays exchange rate so at the end of the day when all things considered there is very little difference to what your budget is and what elaine suggested. For the record i have got just under $1000 (with excursions and gratuities seperate) for our 9 night cruise but that is taking in 3 nights pre cruise, i always have my plasic just in case but never required yet.
