Okay so maybe this is a stupid question...but what is the starboard side???

Port is the left side of the ship when looking towards the front of the ship.

Starboard is the right side of the ship when looking towards the front of the ship.

Aft is the very back of the ship........where you'll find me.

As they said, never a stupid question...google is a great asset.

"Starboard is the nautical term (used on boats and ships) that refers to the right side of a vessel as perceived by a person facing towards the bow. Note that starboard refers to a particular and unchanging side of a ship, and thus is not a synonym for "right", a direction which is completely observer-dependent. (For example, an observer on board who is facing the stern would perceive starboard to be on his left, not his right. The starboard side of a vessel is indicated with a green light."

Actually, a pretty good question to ask here.

But, for folks that have similar questions and maybe do not want to ask, here is a good way to find answers to millions of little questions:

go to www.google.com

type in the words "what is starboard" with or without the quotes and all kinds of answers come back. Some questions are better with the quotes, some do not matter.

I really believe the answer to just about anything can be found on the net.

Good Luck!

The word, I believe, derives from "Steering Board" from the days when the helm was a wide, flat oar clamped to the right (when facing for'ard) side of the ship. Viking ships and the ships of the Illiad had them.

Long before "Port" was used for the left, "Larboard" was the common term for the left side of the ship.
