amsterdam hotel reccommendation, please

Recommended Posts

We're a group of 8 people. We'll be on the Century June 3,2007. I need a hotel reccommendation for Amsterdam for a 2 night pre-cruise stay. Reasonably priced, clean and close to sights. Hopefully a hotel with breakfast, airport and port shuttle services. Thank You

In Amsterdam you will NOT find any shuttles to the port in 2007, as the ship that year sails from ROTTERDAM, which is abt. 1 hour south....

Also shuttles from the airport to a cityhotel are not done by the hotel, but there is an existing shuttle service to has a schedule to most hotels. Check:http://www.schipholhotelshuttle.nl/site/home.asp

Also there is a frequent train to central station, but depending on which hotel you stay you might need onward transportation.

The choice of hotels is wide. All are mentioned on this site of the touristoffice:http://www.vvvamsterdam.nl/

From Amsterdam to Rotterdam Celebrity might offer transportation, otherwise you again need either a car or train. The cruiseterminal in Rotterdam is about 10 cabminutes from the station.

Due to many questions I made up a small list of some Amsterdam hotels:

Bank Mansion: http://banksmansion.carlton.nl/default.asp?tc=UK&action=page&paginaID=5401

Hotel Brouwer: http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/index.html

Ambassade Hotel: http://www.hoteliers.nl/amsterdam/ambassade-hotel/

Hotel Barbizan Palace:http://www.nh-hotels.com/listapaises/nl/europe/nederland/amsterdam/nh_barbizon_palace.html

Movenpick Hotel at the cruise-terminal: http://www.moevenpick-hotels.com/hotels/HKAMSHH/hotelWelcome.htm

Hotel Pulitzer: http://www.pulitzer.nl/templates/mercury.asp?page_id=4607

Hotel Le coin: http://www.lecoin.nl/indexEN.html

Hotel Aalders:

Hotel Piet Hein: http://www.hotelpiethein.nl/engels.html

Hotel Jan Luyken: http://www.janluyken.nl/janluyken/

Lloyd Hotel: http://www.lloydhotel.com/

More budget:Hotel Kap www.kaphotel.nl/

Hotel de Munck www.hoteldemunck.com/

Also NH hotels (a.o. Krasnapolsky), Ramada, Ibis, have hotels at a moderate rate.

kinderteacher: Ine has given you a great list! She gave us an excellent recommendation for an Indonesian restaurant earlier this year.

We have stayed at the Banks Mansion twice. It is air conditioned, and included in the room rate is a full breakfast, open bars (in room and in the lounge) and free internet access. The hotel is located on Herengracht, and is a 5 minute walk from the Rembrandt Square, which is also a major tram stop and also from the floating flower market. I'm sure you will get a lot of other suggestions/recommendations---there are lot of good choices in Amsterdam.

Hope you have a great time in Amsterdam and on your cruise!

We've just stayed at the Hotel Estherea for a five-night post-cruise and enjoyed it tremendously. It's on the Singel canal, the innermost of the major canals in the city and only a 10-15 minute walk from the Central station, Dam Square (Royal palace, Nieuw Kirk, Oude Kirk), Red Light District, Anne Frank house, Rembrandt house, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Rembrandplein, Leidesplien, floating flower market and perhaps 5 minutes longer to the Zoo, Botanical gardens & maritime museum. The 1, 2 and 5 trams pass a block & a half away bringing quick, convenient public transport to anywhere in the region. There are many fine cafes, restaurants and broodjes along the Spuistrasse at the rear of the hotel and the Spui itself (about two blocks away) is a great place to sit, sip and watch the seemingly crazy traffic of pedestrians, bikes, mopeds, cars, trucks, buses and trams all negotiate narrow streets without major collisions. But don't just take my word for it, see why tripadvisor ranks it the #7 (out of 304) hotel in Amsterdam.

INE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO. ALL THE WHILE I WAS THINKING THAT THE SHIP LEAVES FROM THE AMSTERDAM PORT, NOT ROTTERDAM, COZ WE'RE ALSO PLANNING TO STAY A COUPLE OF DAYS IN AMSTERDAM PRIOR TO THE NORTHERN CAPITAL CRUISE ABOARD CENTURY. i GUESS WE MAY JUST NEED TO GET THE SHUTTLE SERVICE FROM CELEBRITY JUST TO PLAY IT SAFE. THANKS FOR THE INFO, HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE KINDERTEACHER.
