Celebration vs bigger ship

I love cruise shopping, the nickle slot machines, karoke. I have asthma so that smoke thing is scaring me.

To answer your earlier question, yes, I love the Celebration! Looking at even finding another one between now and December....:D

And now a comment on the smoking thing... Yogimax has a bias here. He has posted this comment on every Celebration thread there is. People have come in after his cruise stating that it seemed better, more ventilation, etc. to no avail. He will continue to make this statement forever, I am now convinced. That is his opinion and he is certainly entitled to it.

I have an allergy to smoke and can tell you that the Celebration casino is no smokier than any other casino I have been in. You may end up next to a chain smoker and have to move, but again, no different than any other experiences. In addition, several lounges and one entire side of the ship are designated non-smoking areas.

Have a great time!:)

I love to see pictures. That makes me excited. I love the look at the purser desk. But there is not many pictures of the boat. Just off the boat. What excursions did you all do if any?

I'll check tonight and see what, if any pics I have. Glad you are getting excited. You're very close!

We haven't done the 5-day that goes to Key West, but have been there several times. I think an earlier poster said the Trolley Tour was not worth it, but it you want to see the island, I would recommend the Conch Train tour. You don't have to book these on the ship, just get off and you'll be able to join the next tour. Also you can do tour's of Hemingway's House (and his 6-toed cats descendants), the Key West Aquarium, lots of art gallerys (Wyland is one) and tons of quaint bars and restaurants. Truly too much to see in the short time you'll be there.

As for Nassau, we did one of their private island excursion in the past that they no longer offer. They had added several replacements. I have heard that Blackbeard's Cay is nice. On our last trip, our friends that went with us did the Catamaran Snorkel trip and really enjoyed that. Other than that, we usually just shop, eat and drink in Nassau!

Our "must see" restaurant is Lum's Green Iguana Cafe. It is located off of Bay Street in the courtyard between two blocks. It's a 2nd story restaurant that has inside tables and a nice balcony that over looks the street with several more tables. A great place to people watch and the conch fritters and calamari with garlic sauce and a couple Kaliks will make your visit complete!

OK, really must stop now, or I'll never make it through the day, for daydreaming about being in the islands!

Just got off the Celebration on Thursday. There was a little swaying on our night leaving JAX, however after that I never felt it move. Went on the Disney Magic last year and swayed for 7 straight days. The only problem I had with smoking was the casino, however it wasn't bad during the day on sea days, wouldn't go in at night if you don't like to be around it as it is harder to get away from it, during the day it was less crowed. Only other time I noticed smoke was on deck occasionally, however moving locations took care of that. Loved the aft pool, small but not very crowded and no loud music. The crew really is top notch! I've been on the bigger boats, but have to say that my two smaller boats (Big Red Boat and Celebration) were the best time that I had on a cruise.

All of this is very helpful. I am glad this board was created. I have been to the Bahamas always to the Blue Logan. But it is not on the list any more. So I don't know what to do. As for smoking. I will take an inhailer. Save myself. I love to be out and about.

Do you have directions to the port from Brunswick?

Here you go! I got this from Carnival's website. Lots of other FAQs on there as well.

DIRECTIONS TO THE PORT:

Traveling from North of Jacksonville:

  • I-95 South.
  • Exit at State Road 9-A South, Exit #362-A (one mile past the Jacksonville International Airport).
  • Take State Road 9-A South for six miles to Heckscher Drive Exit (SR 105).
  • Turn right on Heckscher Drive (SR 105).
  • Cross over New Berlin Road and go about a 1/2-mile.
  • Turn left on August Drive into the cruise terminal entrance.

We sailed on the Celebration last October when Wilma was churning. Except for when making big turns the ship was very stable. I am sure she has stabilizers. The total cruise experience is good you just don't have all the shops and bars. There is a gift shop and several bars just not as many. We have sailed on large ships but the small ones have a special appeal. Enjoy your cruise.

Jacksonville Bridge:

Thanks for the bridge picture. I had read to be ready and out on deck when the boat goes under the bridge.

It is sounding like Celebration will suit me as I don't do bars, gift shops, or casino.

Did you find a good place to sit out in the shade and look at the water?

Yeah we are about 45 minutes from the port I guess. I live in Brunswick Georgia. I am excited just to be going on another beautiful Carnival ship. Getting a break. I wish I knew someone other thenmy husband going with us. Being he likes to do things I have not business doing, or can't. So I get left behind. But any way have you been on the Liberty yet? We were on the Glory in September it was beautiful!!!
We're driving down the day before and plan to visit either the Casino Ship in Brunswick or Jax. Any comments?

Yes, yogimax has a bias here! But it is fully justified. We last sailed on the Celebration in December 2005. If improvements have been made to the ventillation system - great.

Somehow, I doubt it though, and just want to share that the smoke level in the casino will be oppressive in times of moderately high/high occupancy.

Please give us feedback when you return.

....That it don't have stableizers.....

Celebration does have stabilizers, and offered a very smooth sailing when we where on her. She is smaller than the "Mega-Liners", but all in all, a very nice ship.

And regardless of what Yogi says, we didn't find smoke in the public areas to be any issue at all. Enjoy your cruise.

o.k. - either of two possibilities for Caribbean Dad...

1. You are a smoker

2. You are a smoker but will deny it on these boards

Seriously, you will have a great time on Celebration... if you are a smoker. If not... avoid the casino.

Ah what short memories some have. I AM a smoker......and have never denied it here or anywhere else, especially in discussions with you.

Take this advice with a grain of salt and consider the source. If yogi were to be taken at face value, sitting in the casino would be no better than sitting next to the exhaust vent at the top of the Funnel. Now being a "smoker" obviously my opinion doesn't count, but C-Mom is not a "smoker" and didn't think the smoke in the casino was bad at all. Just go and enjoy yourself.

CD - I apologize for not remembering and truly commend you for your honesty.

As you have advised the OP to take my comments with a grain of salt, so I ask that yours also be considered in the same vain.

Here's all I ask... let the OP take their cruise, spend time in the casino between 8PM and midnight, as well as other times, and report back to all of us.

Deal or No Deal?
