Priceline and Hotwire are the way to go in the NYC area... BIG savings!

There are so many other things going on in NYC almost everyday of the week that hotels really don't pay too much attention to the cruise market.

I have no personal experience but I have heard may unsatifactory things about Hotwire.

I do not know of any cruise specials. Remember to most places an influx of 2500 is a big deal. To NYC, it's hardly a reason for shadow traffic to care.

You may also want to try http://www.tripadvisor.com. It's my new favorite site.

Over the weekend I stayed at the Melrose Hotel on 63rd & Lexington. Yes, it's on the east side but it was a 10 min, $9 w/ tip, cab ride to the pier. We went to the Intrepid.

I've heard & read that hotwire sends you confirmations but never sends your reservation or $$ to the hotel. It's not sooooo bad when the hotel has availability b/c they have had this happen before & will work with you. But when the hotel is full, oh dear

I do not know any of this for sure.
