Paulmj Posted July 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2004 We're scheduled on the August 8th sailing of the Serenade of the Seas from Vancouver. In looking at the ship arrival & departure schedule, the day before we leave, 7 megaships arrive and then leave. The day of our departure, 8 different megaships arrive and then leave. August 7: Coral Princess Diamond Princess Island Princess Norwegian Spirit Oosterdam Radiance Zaandam August 8: Sapphire Princess Amsterdam Infinity Norwegian Star Norwegian Sun Serenade Statendam Veendam At an average of, say, 2000 passengers per ship, that's a lot of people to transit Vancouver in such a short timeframe. I would guess that's more than you would see in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale on a typical weekend in the winter. It must be a huge logistics problem, not only moving the people around, but loading all the provisions, available hotel rooms, getting through the airport, etc. I don't even want to think of what Skagway will be like! Cruise Junky Posted July 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2004 Holy Cow...Where are we going to put them....I don't think we can fit 8 ships here at a time.
Cruise Junky Posted July 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2004 According to the Port of Vancouver...here's the 7th ISLAND PRINCESS CRYSTAL HARMONY ZAANDAM RADIANCE OF THE SEAS and here's the 8th INFINITY NORWEGIAN SUN VEENDAM SERENADE OF THE SEAS Four is about the norm. sdcruiser Posted July 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2004 Looks like SIX large ships each on Sept 19th and Sept 26th will be in Vancouver per the Port of Vancouver schedule..I certainly wouldn't want to be those departing or arriving at the Vancouver airport on either of these two days.. Sept 19th Norwegian Sun Veendam Statendam Norwegian Star Serenade of the Seas Infinity Sept 26th Norwegian Sun Statendam Veendam Oosterdam Serenade of the Seas Infinity SDCruiser

Paulmj Posted July 8, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted July 8, 2004 Re where I am getting the information on cruise ship arrival & departures, I got it here: http://www.bcpassport.com/cruisecalendar.html Is it wrong?
sdcruiser Posted July 8, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 8, 2004 The ships on the BCPassport website that list a S.E. next to them are ones which depart or return to Seattle. I agree, it's misleading to show them all together, but taking this into account, it jives with the Vancouver Port Schedule for Vancouver only... I didn't mean to point out that you were wrong... But knowing we can only hold 6 at max..I was seriously wondering when we started Tendering in Vancouver :)
grouchy Posted July 8, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 8, 2004 We have two piers and lots of hotels and places to shop-don't be afraid! Come and have fun!
Happy ks Posted July 8, 2004 #11 Share Posted July 8, 2004 There are only 3 at Canada Place and 1 at Ballantyne, but we are still flying out the day after. Sorry, I don't want to go through YVR, or any airport close to a cruise ship terminal on debarkation or embarkation day! BTW, cruise junky, I like your link better than the one I have used before, thank you!
Cruise Junky Posted July 8, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 8, 2004 No problem and I don't blame you. But keep in mind, during cruise ship season, there's really no relief.
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 8, 2004 #13 Share Posted July 8, 2004 :) OH yes, there have been times when Ft Lauderdale has had more than 6 ships in port in the winter. Saturdays and Sundays are the worse. :)
